I lifted my gaze to his.But you did.

A jerk of his head and I forced myself to focus, taking one step at a time as I walked back along the hallway and toward the card table. Faces blurred. I saw my father and his friends. I saw their greed and their…their…their…

“Keep walking,” he growled. “I want everyone to see Katerina VanHalen is mine.”

I kept my gaze fixed straight ahead, letting him lead me by the arm toward the kitchen.

“Look who it is.”

I tried to focus on my breaths and the way the room seemed to roll before I lifted my gaze. Hard, cold eyes met mine from the black sofa. I knew him…I’d seen him before. Arrogant. Dangerous…gorgeous.

“Lazarus,” Hale called. “Lazarus Rossi.”

The cocky asshole tore his gaze from mine to meet Hale’s. “I know you?”

“Damon…Damon Zakharov.”That’s right, not Hale. Damon.

But the sprawled-out thug just shifted his gaze to mine.

And Damon noticed.

“You know Katerina?” Damon glanced from Lazarus to me.

“Briefly.”

“No,” I answered at the same time.

Damon just smiled, his eyes glinting with the kind of look that made me cower. “She’s beautiful, right?”

Lazarus said nothing, just watched me as Damon ran his hand down the side of my breast. “He’s looking at you like you’re his.”

I couldn’t look away from him.

His stare nailed me where I stood.

Possessive.

Carnal.

Hungry.

God, he was so hungry.

Like he would eat me alive.

“And you’re shaking…like a bitch in heat. You want to fuck him, Katerina?”

But that’s not what I wanted…not really.Yes,a small voice broke through the fog in my head.Yes you do. Look at him. Look…at…him.

“Go on, then,” Damon growled. “Make him look at you.”

He shoved me forward so that I stumbled. I caught the spark of rage in Lazarus’s gaze as he curled his lips. Damon lifted his head to someone else in the room. “Turn up the music.”

No one argued and the slow, throbbing beat grew louder.

“You look bored, Rossi. You also can’t take your eyes off my girlfriend."

The chiffon material rubbed across my breasts as I inhaled. Here in the cool night with the dull amber glow, I was betting it was almost transparent. The material clung to my body.
