The way her eyes traveled down my body and lingered on my cock told me that was part of it. But there was a dulled emptiness in her eyes thatscreamed. I shifted in my seat as the lecturer started drawing Damon’s attention.

He turned his head and caught me staring at Kat, and her at me. Then the asshole put his arm around her shoulders. She stiffened at the contact, and that howl of desperation in her eyes remained.

She’s not your problem.

I bit my lip and urged her.

Give me a goddamn sign and I’ll change that.

But she didn’t. She just sat there, looking at me with that torment.

The kind I saw in myself.

Kat

Help me.

I stared at the Stidda Prince before Damon shoved against my shoulder. “Eyes front, Katerina.”

That brutal fist inside me clenched tighter. In the dull, sickening feeling of this morning, the events of last night came flooding back.

The mask.

The drug.

The dance.

My heart hammered as I shifted my focus back to the front of the room and tried to listen to the lecturer. But I couldn’t. Not with the memory of the drug in my mind. I'd felt sick this morning. Terrified and frantic, like a cornered beast.

I couldn’t let him drug me again. I’d do anything…anythingto stop that from happening. I glanced at Damon next to me, who just turned and gave me a cover-model smile. On the outside he looked so perfect. Kind, respectful, honest even. But if there was one thing I knew with certainty, it was that monsters could hide in plain sight.

And hewasa monster, there was no arguing that.

One of the worst kinds.

The kind who manipulates, who controls. I could still feel his hand around my throat, still feel thatravenous need.Desperation thrummed inside me. I fought the urge to turn and look at the blue-eyed enigma. Only, to do that would be to draw attention to us.

Attention I didn’t need.

So, I focused on the lecturer in front of me, and slipped behind my mask.

I barely heard a thing he said, shaking myself out of the reverie as the rest of the class started to move.

“Come on,” Damon commanded, rising to stand. “I’ll walk you back to your apartment.”

“No.” The word came out harsh and loud.

Movement came behind me. I was aware of him, the Stidda Prince. His energy pulsed against my skin, his heat flowed through me. I waited for the disgust to settle inside me, waited for that clench in my stomach, that vile, rancid taste of my own private torture.

But there was none of that when I thought of him.

“Kat…now.”

I jerked my gaze toward Damon as he waited at the end of the row of seats. I shuffled closer, pushing past him as I headed for the door.

He grabbed me, his fingers digging into my arm. I whipped my gaze around, desperation roaring in my veins as I met his stare. “Get your fucking hands off me.”
