I stumbled backwards as Damon strode toward me from the back of the classroom.

“No,” I muttered as panic filled me. I turned and lunged toward the doorway, but the deceiving bitch stepped in my way.

“I don’t think so,” she grinned and clucked her tongue. “I owe you for this, you richbitch.”She lunged, fisted a handful of my hair, and yanked.

Agony tore through my scalp as my spine bowed with the force.

The flame of the lighter was snuffed out, but still, in the dim light coming through the small glass in the door, I caught movement as Damon came closer. “Katerina,” he grinned and shook his head. “Don’t you know by now you’remyplaything?”

“Get the fuck off me!” I roared, and shoved the tall bitch away.

She just laughed and deflected my blows with her long fucking arms. One more tug of my hair, and that savage part of my nature burned right through my fear. I spun on her and lunged forward, drivingherbackwards. “You want to fucking hurt me? You haveno idea what pain is.”

I dropped my shoulder and charged, slamming her against the wall. Her hold on my hair slipped with a cry of alarm before she stumbled. I slapped her hand away from my hair, watching as her gaze jerked to Damon’s.

“You?” I whirled on him, driving my body forward, and slammed my palms against his chest. “You fucking touch me again…”

He stumbled backwards, grasping my wrists. “You’llwhat?”he barked. “You’ll get your littleboyfriendto threaten me?”

I stilled for a second before I wrenched my hands from his. My chest heaved in harsh breaths. Myboyfriend.Lazarus, that’s who he meant. Lazarus Rossi. “Yes.” I watched his eyes spark with cruelty. “That’s exactly what I’ll do. You come near me again, Damon, and you’re dead.”

I took a step backwards, splitting my focus between the two predatory pieces of shit.

“I wonder what he’ll think of you when he finds out the truth.”

Ice plunged through my veins at the threat. Damon took a step forward as I fumbled for the door handles behind me. “I wonder what he’ll think when I show him all the videos of good little Katerina.” He reached into his pocket and yanked his phone free, waving it in the air. “All thosedirtyvideos.”

The cunt behind me sniggered as I yanked the handle and lunged through the doorway.

“Be seeing you, Katerina!”Damon called behind me as I tore along the hall and into the empty foyer.

My scalp was burning and tears stung my eyes, but in that moment, all I wanted to do was get the fuck out of there. I punched through the doors and tore out into the brutal gusts of the screaming wind. There was movement in the distance as someone else stood out from one of the buildings. I swiped the slick slide of tears with the back of my hand and strode forward.

Do not crack.I clenched my jaw.Do not let them win.

A tremor tore through me as I swallowed a sob. It took all my strength to hold it together, every ounce of willpower…everyburning need.My steps blurred as the gusts stole my tears away. When I lifted my head, I stood in front of one of the apartment buildings. But it wasn’t mine…

The darkened foyer waited in front of me,Lazarus’sdarkened foyer. Movement came from inside as the elevator doors opened…and Logan stepped out.

He lifted his head, and met my gaze. I took a step backwards, swallowing that thrumming sound of fear as the doors opened and he strode out.

“Kat?” Logan searched my gaze, his brow furrowing as he looked behind me. “What’s wrong?”

He was in front of me in an instant, towering over me with massive strength as he reached out and gently touched my arm. “Where the fuck is your bodyguard?” He seemed to grow even more pissed as he settled those intense eyes on me. “And why the fuck have you been crying?”

Panic flared inside me as I shook my head.

“Did something happen?” He splayed his hand on my arm.

Anyone else, I’d fight and buck, hating the touch. But here and now…it was comforting. There was nothingsickin Logan’s gaze. Nothingwrong. He just stepped closer, moving into a savage gust as it whipped my hair into my eyes. He was shielding me, using his own body as a buffer.

“No,” I lied. “Nothing happened.”

He just lowered his head, forcing my gaze to his. “You sure?”

There was somethingpowerfulin his focus, something commanding…andsafe.

“Laz isn’t here, if you’ve come to see him,” he said softly.
