“Good, again,”he growled…then turned and caught me off guard with a punch to the face, catching me in the fucking nose.

Agony roared through my head. Tears came in an instant, blurring the sonofabitch. I clenched my jaw, that savagery bursting through to the surface as I blinked through the tears and went for him. My movements were ruthless this time. Gone was the tremble in my muscles, gone was the roar in my head. There was only him now, only the chance to take this fucker down.

“Good,” he repeated, only this time he moved front on, exposing himself.

I swung, again and again. Two blows he deflected…but two caught their mark and in the blink of an eye, the hunter became the hunted.

I swung, jabbed, lifted my leg and kicked out, catching him in the side, making the bastard work. The harder and more focused I became, the more he enjoyed it, blocking and then coming for me…hard.Showing me the kind of training a former Navy SEAL had. The bastard was ruthless and consuming, and by the time he was done, I was on my hands and knees on the mat, sucking in heaving breaths.

“Good,” he patted my shoulder with a heavy glove. “Very good. You’re getting better.”

“Better be,” I forced the words through hard gasps. “Or I’ll die trying, right?”

He just grinned at me, then held out his forearm.

I took it, using the leverage to heave myself up from the floor, and waited for the damn room to stop spinning.

“Better?” He stared into my eyes.

I nodded, clearer, harder, back to my old self. “Better.”

There was no more panicked roar inside my head now, no more tangled mess of emotions the redhead had left behind. There was only clarity, only the darkness. Only that hunger, kill or be killed.

I sucked in a hard breath as I watched Freddy rise from his seat at the edge of the gym. Brother to brother, we strode out, sweaty and slick. A damn mess. But there was something about fighting and training together, something that brought us closer together.

Women came and went…but my brothers, they always had my back.

I made my away back to the apartment and left Logan in the apartment below mine. The second I was alone, I grabbed my phone and called Dad. He answered on the second ring.

“Problem?” The deep growl came through the other end.

“Many of them. I am a Rossi, after all, aren’t I? But it’s nothing I can’t handle,” I answered. “But there’s a reason why I called.”

“You need some fatherly advice? In over your head with a certain billionaire’s daughter?”

“No,” I growled as he chuckled. “The Commission meeting. I want to know what was discussed.”

The laughter ended, just like I knew it would. “We discussed a lot of things, Laz.”

“Anything specific to the Kilpatricks?”

“No,why?”

I ground my teeth, remembering the way those assholes closed ranks quick enough. “I’m not sure. But something’s up.”

“They assured us you were safe on the island. That with the increased security, there’d be no more attacks. The Kilpatricks are on edge…what with Wraith and everything.”

“First sons are dropping all over the place, it seems,” I muttered.

There was silence on the other end of the line, then quietly, “Maybe we should bring you home.”

“No,” I answered as Kat’s face filled my mind. “Not yet.”

“I don’t need to remind you to be careful. Things are volatile at best.”

“Another hit?” I asked.

“On the warehouse this time. The fuckers decided to have an early Fourth of July…with C-4.”
