It always came down to that. That axe they had to grind, Likeeverywoman was too good for a Stidda.

“Not Kat…Anna,”he answered.

A chuff slipped from my lips as I combed my hair back from my face. “Why the fuck would Anna be in my apartment?” His seething rage said it all. I couldn’t stop the smirk. “Oh, you had a little lovers' quarrel and she left your scrawny ass? Maybe she’s not as stupid as I thought.”

Finley strode forward. “Let me up there…now.”

Now I was getting pissed off. I took a step, blocking his way to the elevator. “Back the fuck off, Salvatore. She’s not up there.”

“Thehellshe isn’t,” he raged. “Let me up there now…or…”

I stilled, that burn of anger turning ice cold. “Or what?” I warned, and took a step closer. “You going to declare war for this fucking woman?”

“If I have to.”

He was deadly serious. I’d never seen Finley so fucking serious. It shook me, enough to put the poor bastard out of his misery. “She’s not up there.”

“I don’t fucking believe you,” he snapped.

I was getting nowhere, not when he looked likethat.“You want to see for yourself, fine.”

Logan scowled at the words. He didn’t like Finley coming upstairs. Hell, he probably didn’t likeanymale coming upstairs where Kat was concerned, including me.

But this wasn’t his fucking decision, was it? I pressed the button and stepped back inside. “Kat’s upstairs and she’d had a hell night…sobe fucking respectful.”

“I just need Anna,” he sputtered, and raked his fingers through his hair. “I think something’s wrong…likereallywrong.”

Yeah, no shit.

The bastard couldn’t keep still, jumpy and breathing heavy, even running his hands through his hair over and over again. Frantic. That’s what the brother was…pure fucking frantic. The sight scared me. I’d never seen him like this…hell, I’d never seen anyone like this.

“You think she’s running?” I murmured.

He jerked those brown eyes to mine, fear dancing so close to the surface it balanced on a knife’s edge. Then the elevator stopped, the doors opened, and Finley was striding through the apartment, heading straight for the bedroom, where Kat was…like hell he was.

I strode ahead, outmatching his strides, and gave him a savage glare.

The bastard seemed to remember where he was and stopped in the middle of the living room.

“Lazarus?” Kat called my name, and the sound of that made my damn heart race.

“Yeah, it’s me,” I answered.

“What’s going on?” She stepped out of the bedroom, concern filling her eyes.

“It’s Fin,” I muttered. “He’s worried about Anna.”

She came closer, looking from me to Fin. “What about Anna?”

I hated that tremor in her voice, hated the panic in her eyes, hated the way she wrapped her arms around her body defensively. I wanted to protect her from that kind of feeling. I wanted to be the one to end her fear. “It seems she’s gone missing.”

She just looked to Finley as her fear turned savage. “What happened?” But he didn’t answer, just stood there, pale and shaking. She strode toward him, her tone turning icy.“What happened?”

“She left,” he answered slowly.

“Just like that?”

He swallowed hard. “Yeah.”
