Chapter 28

Rylie

I love coming to see Dr. Sharp. Something about talking to her, makes me feel better. It’s like I give her all of the shit that has been stored inside me forever, and she just takes it and throws it all away. For the first time in my life, I don’t feel the weight of those memories.

“How did Derek feel, when you had the nightmare?” Dr. Sharp asks.

I shrug my shoulders. “I don’t know really. I think he thought it was his fault, but I told him it wasn’t. We laid there for a while, but then I felt him leave the bed. He was gone for so long that I thought he was leaving me.”

She raises her brow. “What was he doing?”

“I think he was in the bathroom trying to figure out how to handle me.” I say.

“Handle you?” she says with a small laugh. “I am not sure that you are a person to be handled Rylie.”

“What do you mean?” I ask.

She gives me a sad smile. “People have been trying to handle you your entire life. They have been trying to make you do what they wanted, to make you become who they thought you should be, but you never caved. You are the woman you always wanted to be. Rylie, if there was ever a person that could not be handled, it is you.”

“Is that a good thing?”

She nods her head. “It’s a wonderful thing.”

I leave her office feeling at peace. After today’s session, I finally put to rest what my parents did to me. Maybe now the dreams will finally be gone, I think to myself as I drive over to Derek’s office. I called Elizabeth and William first, making sure they weren’t there. Last time I planned something like this, I had a parental audience and it was very embarrassing.

I walk through the front doors and see Cecily standing beside the front deskspeaking with a gentleman who has his back to me. A few seconds pass before I realize that the man she’s talking to is Connor. Hmm.

I start to walk pasther desk to Derek’s office, but am stopped when I’m pulled back into a hard body. I look over and see that it’s Connor who has me in his grip. “Let me go.” I say firmly.

“Why don’t you join us for a chat?I haven’t had the pleasure of talking to you in a while.” Connor says, trying to sound smooth.

“Uh, no thanks. I’m here to see my man, not some asshole with a death wish.” I say, knowing that if Derek knew what Connor was doing, he’d probably kill him.

“Ohh, is someone growing some balls?” he says, taunting me.

I shrug out of his hold, keeping my head held high, and throw him the finger as I walk to Derek’s office.

Cecily

I watch Connor stare at Rylie as she walks down the hall. I notice his face is red and if looks could kill, Rylie would have dropped dead.

He turns to look at me and stalks over. He grabs my arms. “Connor, you’re hurting me.” I say timidly.

“Shut up, bitch.” He says through gritted teeth. “When are you going to start fixing this problem? It’s been months, and you haven’t done shit.”

“I’ve been waiting until they got closer, so it would hurt more.” I say quietly. Although, that’s not entirely true. Part of me wants out of this deal with Connor, but the other part of me really wants Derek. I feel like I have two personalities; a cold hearted bitch, and someone else, someone who’s normal..

“Better fuckin’ hurry up or it will be you thatwill suffer Rylie’s fate!” he growls out at me.

He lets me go, and roughly shoves me into the chair, then walks away. He walks down the hall, goes into his office and slams his door shut.

I guess it’s time to start the damn play. Break up Rylie and Derek.
