“Because he’d have an uprising if he did that. Shifters are different than the rest of the races, they require presence. I have a feeling we’ll be travelling a lot to his original home to deal with things.”

“I take it your people are more relaxed?”

“Yes, we’re peaceful in all things, love to relax and party, enjoy the finer things in life. It’s only our duds that give us problems.”

I cringe. “Can we please not call them duds, that just sounds so mean.” Remembering the conversation with Dagan we had about duds not that long ago.

“Of course, if you feel that way then I’ll make it so. You might have a harder time convincing Nev of that though when he finally arrives. The angels hate humans more than anything.” He tells me.

Frowning, “Can you explain that?”

“While we eat.” He tugs on my hand, and I follow him to the dining hall, I feel like since I got here, I’ve gained weight, all we seem to do is eat all the time. Sex and food, I can handle, but I still have to learn about things.

Once we’re seated and food arrives, Ryder talks. “Angels aren’t what humans think. You know how most believe in one God, some believe in multiple gods, but the truth is much more complex. Do you know anything about Gods yet?”

I shake my head no. “Just what I’ve read, there are different gods for each culture.”

“Yes, but the truth is there is only mother earth, she created all the original beings, the Gods that have existed over the years were all supernatural creatures that just got too big for their britches and taken out. It was witches that finally had enough of their bullshit and ended the reign of gods once and for all.”

“Okay, how and why?” I’m so curious about all these things, so many interesting new things to learn, all in a short period of time.

“Witches were tired of being controlled, so they banded together and cast the so-called gods out. The very dirt we walk on, the dust, the air, the clouds, it’s all dead gods. Each star in the sky is a symbol of a god. When mother earth created Angels, they oversaw the skies, the stars, but when duds, or humans, were born they were tasked with helping them, like guardian angels.”

“That’s where angels of the bible come from right?”

“Christians.” He grunts and shakes his head. “They are different. They worship a cruel god, though they don’t know it. Thank the Goddess he’s dead.” Ryder mumbles under his breath. “Angels became enraged at this worship when they were the ones that actually protected them. Yes, all of us supernatural’s protect their people, including the duds, but after so many centuries, the humans would multiply more than us. So, we let them go off on their own. Knowing there was an Angel watching them.

“But as years went on, and no thanks were given to the Angels, just more of a belief in a God, well, you can imagine how that went down. No one is without a sin, and for Angels it’s the fact that they weren’t acknowledged. Every war that has happened, could have been prevented if the Angels stepped in. Instead they let the humans feud amongst themselves.”

Fascinating, I love learning this.

“When the great coming out happened, Angels were first in line to come out to the human world, letting them know they were the ones that protected the humans, not some god. Ten years of war followed, humans trying to kill them, or should I say the Christians of the world did. But you can’t kill what you can’t catch, and Angels are impossible to capture. For everyone angel that died. Millions of humans were slaughtered. After a while the humans gave up. Seeing for the first time everything they knew was wrong. Though you still have some groups that worship a god or gods, we leave them alone, for the most part. It’s not unless they start killing in the name of a god that angels get involved now.”

“Wow. That’s just. Wow.” I finish eating my meal and it seems Ryder is done with story time. I would love to talk with him more, maybe find out about the demons, but Lilith has summoned me for witch practice. I suppose I need to learn about what powers I may have. I’m surprised they haven’t come out yet. From the witch lessons I was getting before I changed, she made it seem like I would be out of control for the first while. But not even a spark has come out of my fingers.
