The muscle in his jaw jumped. “You focused so much on my lie, that I didn’t ask you what you have lied to me about. As far as I know, you could have told him more about me than I could ever imagine.”

What the hell? How come she was the bad guy all of a sudden? “I did not. He wanted me to keep an eye on you but he never talked to me about the airline deal or anything like that.”

“But I can’t know for sure, can I… I just have to trust you.”

Trust her? How about her trusting him? Air swooshed from her lungs, disappointment squeezing her shoulders. What kind of future would she have with him if they never got a clean slate? Their love had started with lies, from both sides, but did it have to continue in such dishonest path? She bit the inside of her cheek so hard she could swear she tasted blood. What she had to do and what she wanted to do were two different things. But damn it, she wouldn’t be able to live with herself if she didn’t try to see where they stood. “Yes. And trust this… You can’t have this revenge and me. If you still want me in your life, you’ll have to choose,” she said. She couldn’t willingly support him if he continued these games.

He withdrew, cocking his head to one side, probably analyzing his choices. Then, he raked his hand into his hair, the frustration evident on his handsome face. A face she’d miss if he didn’t pick her. “I’ve come too far, Kira. Be reasonable.”

Tears welled up inside, but she willed them away. Now was not the time to show weakness. “I can’t be your wife, and support you, and let this dark negative energy strain our relationship. It’s not fair and it’s not healthy.”

“I can’t turn away now.”

She nodded, and looked away. “Then your choice is made. I’ll go pack my bags.”
