“Or someone who wants your kidneys?” Poppy asked.

Billie chuckled, then reached for her beer and said over the rim, “Girls, I’m not an idiot. You really think someone who wanted to hurt me would go through all this trouble of sponsoring a foreign employee and having all this shit on paper? When they could just get someone local?”

“You’re right,” Kira said. “Plus, international work visas are a thing.”

Poppy nodded slowly, squinting her eyes. Trying to see if she could reason with Billie. Probably not. If her cousin had shared it with them, she was already dead-set on going. “It’s just strange why they’d keep their identity a secret.”

Billie shrugged. “I don’t know. We’ll see.”

“I’m proud of you, Billie. You’re embarking on yet another adventure,” Kira said. “That takes guts—and I hope they won’t be literally, like I hope you won’t be part of a human trafficking ring or something.”

“Me too,” Poppy said. “Can you promise you’ll watch out for your guts and all the other organs?”

Billie laughed. “Fear not. Keeping all my organs intact will be my top priority.”
