“I didn’t break in; I have a key,” I remind her. “Why isn’t your car in the driveway?”

“It’s parked at Callie’s.” She points the wand in the direction of the house across the street. “We went there to relax after our exhausting evening and so she could guzzle the rest of the wine in her house and annoy me. I didn’t feel like moving my car when she ran out of wine, so we just walked over here.”

“Do I even want to ask why you two were exhausted?”

Sidney shrugs. “You know, the usual. Did a little roofie’ing, and then we had to move a couple of bodies.”

“Christ, why didn’t you—”

“Oh, don’t even give me that look,” she cuts me off. “I would have called you, but this was personal. Besides, it’s only a felony if they press charges.”

“Bitch-ass, play.”

Sidney lets out a long sigh when Hay presses her talk buttons in the living room.

“Well, that’s new.”

“Penny decided Hay’s buttons were too boring.” Grabbing a small plastic ball with a bell inside it from the drawer right by her hip, she turns around and chucks it into the living room.

“Trick or Treat?”

Sidney shakes her head when she closes the drawer. “Oh… no. This was just your run-of-the-mill, everyday, asshole behavior.”

“That’s fun.”

How in the fuck are we even having a normal conversation right now, like we didn’t just have our tongues down each other’s throat twenty-four hours ago, and like I didn’t just hear her admit she’s been getting off thinking about me for six years?

Sidney must realize this small talk is pointless as well.

“Where the hell have you been?” she fires at me, tossing her wand onto the counter.

Jesus, she sounds just like me. I’m so fucking gone for this woman it’s not even funny.

“Youran away fromme, remember? Thought I’d give you some time to cool off.”

“Well, it didn’t cool me off at all,” she complains with a huff.

Flashes of Sidney lying on her bed with her legs spread and her hand working between those gorgeous thighs while she thinks about me make my dick painfully hard.

“You need something from me, baby?”

Her eyes darken and her lips part. I can see a million thoughts running through her head and a thousand arguments with herself. Right when I think she’s going to keep on pretending and not answer me, she licks her lips, and the quietest whisper comes out of her.

“Maybe.”

Just that one little word of acknowledgement from her almost has me coming in my jeans, wondering what it would take to turn that maybe into a yes. She never asks me for anything. Not a day in her life in six years has this woman ever asked for anything, which has always made the need to give hereverythingat the top of my list.

“You really want me to go on a date with Stacy Sullivan?”

It’s honestly surprising I’m even able to crack a smile right now, considering I got stuck on the phone with that woman for twenty minutes today. But when Sidney starts cursing up a blue streak, I almost throw my head back and laugh. It only takes me a split second to immediately sober when I realize that all this time, she really has been jealous as fuck about the baked goods.

“No, all right!” Sidney shouts, throwing her hands up in the air. “There is actually vomit in my throat right now just thinking about you going on a date with her. Or anyone.”

My heart pounds in my chest and the static in my ears gets louder.

“Ford has starred in all of your masturbation fantasies for the entire six years you’ve known him.”

“Did you fail to mention something to me last night when I was spilling my guts to you, admitting how much I can’t stop thinking about being inside you?”
