“Let’s go. We have Liam’s credit card, his Camaro, and a party to plan.” I grin at my friend’s obsession with her boyfriend’s car. It’s cute.

“Fine, as long as you buy lunch.” She rolls her eyes as she tosses me my favorite hoodie and walks out of the room.

“Technically, Liam is buying, so you can have whatever you want,” she yells from the hallway, and I laugh at her statement because I know it’s not true. She might joke about spending all of Liam’s money, but I’d bet you a million dollars that it took him hours to convince her to let him pay for the party. He probably used the Camaro as bait for her to take the credit card.

“Fine, you win!” I yell. JJ laughs as if it were a given that I would go with her. Who am I kidding? If there’s free food involved, I’ll be there. But it doesn’t mean I have to like it.

Let’s get this over with.

3 DAMON

I wake up with a start and groan as the early morning light streams through my curtains. I rub my hands against my unshaven jaw as I try to shake the dream that still lingers on my skin. It’s been four weeks since that night at the club, and it’s been three weeks and six days since I started to dream about her.

Every.

Night.

Without fail, I wake up with morning wood that would put a porn star to shame, and it takes a good rub out and a cold shower to get the bad boy to go down. That is until I think about her soft skin, sexy moans, and delicious lips, then I’m right back where I started. I wish I had gotten her name or something I could use to find her. I’ve gone back to the club every single night since we met, hoping to find her. But she’s never there.

I hear my phone go off on the bedside table and pick it up. It’s Liam.

Meet at Mama’s Diner for breakfast. Need to talk.

Any other person and I would be worried by that text, but it’s Liam, and I know it’s probably something to do with work. So, I get up and head into the shower, hoping I can keep mystery girl off my mind long enough to get through the day.

Mama’s Diner stands in front of me, and I smile at the seriously outdated signage and brick façade that covers the outside of the building. I’ve been coming here since Liam and I were kids. Mama Jenn was like a second mother to us, especially since ours were more concerned about public appearances than their kids.

As I walk in the front door, a sense of relief washes over me.

“Damon, my boy!” Mama Jenn yells from across the room. She walks around the counter and makes her way toward me. Her silver hair falls past her shoulders in waves, the way it’s been for years. Her black cat-eye glasses frame her face, and I smile at the Motley Crüe t-shirt that hangs loosely over her ripped jeans.

“Where have you been!” she murmurs as her hands frame my face, and she pulls me down so she can kiss each of my cheeks.

“I’m sorry, work has been crazy lately.” It’s not a complete lie. Work has been busier than normal with the acquisition of some very important trade companies. But there is no chance of me telling her that I’ve been going out every night in search of a girl. She would run with that to the bank.

“Well, you need to come by more often. Your partner in crime is already here in your booth.” She points behind her, and I see Liam sitting alone.

“I’ll bring over your favorites.” She smiles, lightly slapping my cheek affectionately. She walks back into the kitchen, and once the door closes behind her, I head toward Liam.

“’Bout time you showed up,” he mutters as he looks at his phone.

“I was sleeping when you texted me, sorry I’m not always at your beck and call.” The sarcasm comes off in waves, and a smirk appears on his lips. I know he’s being a jackass for no reason. “So, what did you want to meet about?”

“Can’t a guy just want to talk to his best friend?” he asks just as Mama Jenn comes back with plates of pancakes, bacon, and eggs. I groan at the smell, and we both dig in the minute she places the dishes on the table.

“Jesus, it’s like you boys never eat…” Mama Jenn grumbles as she leaves to serve some other customers. Liam and I smile at each other, eating in silence.

After we’ve demolished most of the food, I look up to see Liam smiling like an idiot at his phone. “Let me guess. JJ?” I tease as his eyes meet mine. Yup, he’s a goner.

“Yeah. I can’t help it.”

I get it. I would be like that too if I found the right girl. When I told Liam about my mystery girl the day after our encounter happened, I played it off like it was just another hookup. But when I left his office, I went into mine and looked up the club’s website to see if they’d posted any pictures. No luck. It took Liam a few days to realize that I was becoming obsessed—something he knew a lot about, considering how he and JJ started out. That’s when I told him the truth. The shit-eating grin on his face told me that I shouldn’t have told him anything.

“So…find your mystery girl yet?” Liam asks, still picking at the food in front of him. I shake my head.

“And you’ve been going to the same club every weekend…” I nod, not telling him it’s been more like every night.

“There’s no use. The girl obviously doesn’t want to be found. Maybe I should just leave it be.” Liam laughs loudly at my proclamation, eliciting stares from other diners.
