The threatening undertone in my voice made them all take a step back. "We don't interfere in other people's affairs. Especially not in Gia's."

"Why not?"

"Because she'll kick our asses if we get on her nerves too much."

Of course. I had wondered how she came to live in an area like this in the first place and feel comfortable and safe.

"Any other relevant info?" I asked.

My anger at those guys was far from gone, but I wouldn't let it out now when there was someone much more deserving of it.

"I I don't think so. The car was probably rented and the guy couldn't drive very well. A little older. That's all I know. Not even what Gia was screaming about. I'm sorry." I believed him for what it’s worth.

"If she makes it back here and anything like this ever happens again if I hear you were out here standing around instead of making sure she was safe I will see to it that you carry around the appropriate amount of balls in the future to match your actions."

All color drained from his face, which gave me at least a little satisfaction as I crossed the street again.

My cell phone had blocked a few calls in the meantime. Carlotta. Natale. Fiero. Vincenzo. Flavia. Emilio.

I called no one back, got in the car and started the engine. I still found it difficult to think. I almost even missed the fact that another car was parked behind mine.

I jumped out of my car, ready to smash the guy's face in, but it was none other than Vince, who was sitting there, staring at me out the open window, waiting.

Cursing, I pulled open the door, sank down on the seat and looked at him. Well, I had least of all expected him to show up.

"There are no other clues in the apartment?" he asked, without going into how he knew about Gia's disappearance.

My whereabouts were no longer a mystery with this knowledge, and yet it continued to surprise me to see him here.

"No," I replied through clenched teeth.

"Okay," was all he said to that at first.

However, he also did not drive off, which made me increasingly nervous. Every second that we did nothing

Vincenzo looked at me, still radiating that disgusting calm. As if we had all the time in the world. As if Gia had all the time in the world.

"We have to at least consider that this is a trap," he began.

I rolled my eyes. I didn't give a shit if this Frenchman thought he could get his hands on us like this. At the first sight of him, I would shoot the entire magazine of my gun into his chest and reload to do it again.

"He's pissed because he didn't succeed the first time and she got out of it alive."

"Maybe he's been doing research and watching you guys over the last few days."

"And then still decided to mess with me. I should have been even more focused on figuring everything out."

"You've been trying to figure things out yourself?"

"After Emilio was unwilling to share with me any information of course."

Vincenzo growled something that sounded suspiciously likemaledetto minchione.

"None of this is helping me find her."

"Maybe we don't have to look for them at all. If it is as I think, he will try to come at us again soon enough."

I laughed out. "We won't wait for him to crawl out of hiding. He touches a hair on Gia's head and I'll go to France to rip out his wife’s, children’s and grandmother's hearts and serve them to him on a silver platter."
