I knew she was capable of keeping up with any of us, but she rarely cared and stayed behind.

"What?" she grumbled when she noticed my gaze. "It's been a while since I've had any fun, and since I'm always cleaning up your mess "

"I didn't complain, did I?" I asked and nodded toward the front door. It was time to get into a car and cross Naples in the fastest way possible to find the current location of the car.

When I stepped into the foyer with the others and Natale also joined us, I felt a sense of triumph. Emilio might not approve, might even be against it, but I would find Gia, free her, and bring her home. Whether or not he liked it.

We were already halfway to the door when Vince turned around once more. "Last chance to join us," he called out to Emilio. I didn't have to turn in his direction to know he was shaking his head. Vincenzo's expression told me all I needed to know.

I pushed open the door and sprinted down the stairs. Vince and I got into his car, Carlotta took Natale's passenger seat. Within minutes, we were speeding through the city streets.

There was a lead. Something to do.

* * *

The entire tripI had been watching the blue dot that told me the location of the car. It hadn't even moved, so at least the car was still in the immediate vicinity of the abandoned motel. That much I had figured out by now, thanks to the Internet.

In fact, there was only the S-Class in the small parking lot. The two-story building was run-down, U-shaped, and had been empty for at least five years. On one side, the roof had collapsed, spilling debris across the floor.

"What if he just parked the car here?"

"We'll worry about that once we've had a look around."

Vince got out, walked to the S-Class and opened the unlocked trunk and all the doors. Finally, he held up a small bottle.

I didn't even have to look at the label to know that it was chloroform. That was all he found in the car. Meanwhile, I monitored the building until Natale's car turned into the parking lot. He parked it right next to Vincenzo's and got out without a second thought and looked toward the motel.

I joined him and my sister.

"Looks like it could collapse with one wrong step," Natale noted, a grim undertone in his voice.

"That's why they'll be on the lower floor if they're here," Carlotta replied. "There are probably windows on the back side, too. We should approach from both sides. You can't see anything yet, but I think it's likely that they have one guard there."

No one contradicted her. Her quick judgment of the situation was right.

"Any preferences?" I asked her, disregarding Natale, who usually took charge and made these decisions.

She raised her shoulders. "I'll come with you and we'll go in from the front," she said, which automatically assigned Vince to Natale, who thus had to circle the building first to even get into position.

"No heroics. Whoever stands in our way dies. Gia remains unharmed. Understood?"

I raised my hands. "You don't have to tell me."

A broad grin appeared on her lips before she nodded. None of us needed this instruction, and yet it was interesting to hear it from her mouth. We didn't normally work together. We were certainly not on the same team and thus didn't automatically entrust each other with our lives.

I couldn't stand around any longer, so I pulled out my gun, took the safety off, and walked toward the building. Let them know I was coming to get them. Maybe they would wet their pants.

Or try to escape– which I still liked best, because it would have meant hunting them. To hunt him. The Frenchman, whom we had thought dead after he and his car had fallen off the bridge into the water.

Carlotta moved at the same pace at my side, keeping her eyes forward. She had also drawn her weapon and carried it in front of her like a bold statement.

No one who met her like that believed that she would shoot. However, I knew better– she not only shot, no. She also aimed– to kill.

"Bottom left. At least one guy. Armed. I bet my ass there are at least three more inside."

I glanced around for Vince and Natale, but didn't spot neither of them, which could only mean that they were already at their posts.

"At least we'll have a little fun," I muttered. My thoughts, however, were only with Gia. Actually, in situations like these, I looked forward to bringing death to men. But today I didn't care. As long as I could free Gia from the Frenchman's dirty fingers, all the rest was beside the point.
