The dog huffed out a sniff and moved to sit beside the sofa.

“Sorry,” he said. “She’s used to being on my right.”

“Should we switch places?” Naomi offered.

“No, no, it’s fine,” Gage said with a tight smile.

“Very well,” Dr. Oppyx said.

The lights dimmed so that Naomi was aware only of the big, hard body beside hers, and the excited thrum of her own heartbeat.

Gage

Gage tried desperately to focus on the doctor, who was fussing with a holo projector on a nearby table.

But all he could think about was the delicious little beauty beside him. Her every movement unleashed a breath of her scent, each one driving him closer to madness.

What’s happening to me?

But he knew what was happening. He wanted the cool-headed little Terran, wanted her badly.

And he had no one to blame but himself. It had been years since he had indulged in a little time on the pleasure ships, let alone had a woman in his bed that he had wooed and won.

Now, at the slightest suggestion that he was going to engage in a mating with this stranger, he was as rigid with need as a frantic teenager.

He could only beg the gods that she kept her professional composure, and her eyes didn’t drift below his face. She would probably find his physical reaction to her shocking, maybe even frightening, given her tiny frame and the burgeoning swell of his need.

A flickering image appeared over the holo-disc the doctor was fussing with. As Dr. Oppyx stepped back into the shadows, Gage forced his eyes to focus on the film.

It appeared to be a female Maltaffian. She was walking on the same beach where his shuttle craft had arrived.

“Welcome to the Midsummer Center for Fertility,” the woman said in a cheerful tone. “I’m here to tell you a little about the center and the work we’ll be doing here. Let me start by saying that you are the most important part of that work.”

The view panned out slightly, showing more of the beach.

“A first of its kind, the entire center was uniquely designed, planned and implemented by a single AI,” she said as she walked. “And that AI, nicknamed Oberon, will also host you throughout your stay, attending to all of your needs and ensuring the best possible environment to meet our goals. We’re proud to tell you that the Midsummer Center for Fertility was denoted by the Intergalactic Physicians Association as the most conception-friendly place in the galaxy.”

The woman turned, and suddenly she was in a green meadow. The sound of birdsong swelled around her.

“Each day will begin with relaxing, shared activities for surrogate and intended parent,” the woman went on. “Oberon has crafted a plethora of pleasant locations to help you feel at ease and get to know each other better.”

That was good. No matter what was happening to his libido in the presence of this girl, Gage knew that his sperm would not quicken until he had formed a bond with her. Time together would encourage success.

His mind showed him images of how they could spend that time. He saw her spread out on his bed, his big green hands holding her pale thighs down, feeding on her needy sex while she tossed her dark hair against the pillows, moaning and begging for more.

He barely held back a groan of wanting.

“Here at the Midsummer Center for Fertility, everyone has responsibilities,” the woman said, her voice deepening as if she had also seen his fantasy, and did not approve.

The camera zoomed in on her face in a dramatic close-up.

“It’s the responsibility of this clinic to ensure your safety at all times,” she said. “Say the words escape me now at any time, and Oberon will cancel programming immediately.”

He glanced over at Naomi, wondering what she made of all this. Would she ask Oberon to take her away from him if he let her see that he wanted to do so much more than spill his seed in her?

He could practically hear her desperate cries as he pleasured her over and over again.
