She nodded. “I don’t want to talk to anyone right now.”

“About time!” Logan yelled from The Den.

Jack, drawn out by the cacophony, wolf-whistled as they ran past, and the tourists, always down for a bit of fun, applauded around the square. Kat knew her face must be beet red, but she couldn’t bring herself to care. Together, they sprinted around the corner and out of sight, slowing to a walk once they reached the beach.

“I don’t remember the last time I had so much fun,” Sterling said, laughing.

“Neither.” She stopped and grabbed both of his hands in hers. He smiled down at her, eyes twinkling, chest rapidly rising and falling. God, she loved this man. “But I promise you, we’re going to have fun every day from now on. Just you and me.”

“I like the sound of that.”

The gleam in his eye turned dark and speculative, and whatever else she’d been about to say vanished from her mind. She twined her arms around his neck and drew him down for an intensely thorough kiss. The kind of kiss that wasn’t an ending, but rather the beginning of something new. Something built to last. When it finished, they walked arm in arm along the beach toward Sanctuary, where their home, and their future, awaited.
