Maisie crossed her arms. “When you asked what I thought, you already had the plan in motion?”

“I thought you liked that I’m a woman of action.”

“Sometimes.” Maisie pursed her lips. “It depends.”

“I can always cancel.” Drew’s finger hovered over her phone, a teasing quality to her tone. “Just say the word.”

“And not find out what your idea of a romantic night in Vegas is?” Maisie stomped a foot. She’d been outwitted, and she knew it. “No way.”

“I had a feeling that would be your answer.” Drew tucked her phone back into her pocket with a look of victory. She held out an arm to Maisie. “Our chariot awaits.”

Maisie came to a dead stop when they got outside and she saw the Cadillac parked along the curb. It wasn’t just any old Caddy but a pink one. The driver wore a vintage fuchsia cocktail dress, and when she hopped out to open the door, her beehive hairdo made her at least six-foot-four.

“Miz Destiny?” Maisie’s mouth fell open.

“I thought we’d recreate our last night in Vegas,” Drew announced.

“The night we can’t remember?”

“Fortunately for us, Miz Destiny, who blogs about all the interesting people she chauffeurs around town, actually knows everything we did that night. This whole time, it was on the internet, but she doesn’t use real names.” Drew grinned. “When I provided the date and explained what I wanted, she jumped at the chance to help us retrace our steps. It’s possible we’re providing Miz Destiny more material.”

“Drew Campbell!” Maisie didn’t know what else to say.

“Come on, honey.” Miz Destiny ushered Maisie and Drew into the back of the Caddy. Two champagne flutes were waiting, and Maisie was relieved to find this time, they were filled with nothing stronger than sparkling apple juice. “Time for you to finally remember the night you were never going to forget.”

After a whirlwind tourof Las Vegas, the pink Cadillac pulled up outside of the final destination of the evening: a wedding chapel.

“Here it is, ladies,” Miz Destiny exclaimed. “The final piece of the puzzle.”

“This is where we got married?” Maisie asked the driver. She scanned the little white church, searching her memory for a spark of recognition, but came up empty.

“Sure is,” the driver confirmed. “It’s also where Britney Spears got married, by the way. Ya’ll insisted on the best.”

Instead of staying in the car so they could make their way back to the hotel, Drew surprised Maisie by opening her car door and hopping out.

“What are you doing?” Maisie asked.

Drew shrugged. Maisie attempted to decipher this particular shrug’s meaning but came up empty. “I thought we’d go inside.”

“Do you not remember what happened last time we went in there?” Maisie asked, eyeing the place like it might be filled with snakes.

“No, I don’t. That was why I thought we should go in.” Drew held out her hand, urging Maisie from the car. “Come on. Let’s see if it spurs our memories.”

“I don’t know if this is a good idea.” Maisie continued to hold back, even though she wasn’t sure why. It was almost like she was afraid if they went inside, it would all turn out to be a big mistake, and someone would tell them they’d never been married after all. Which was stupid. It wasn’t like anything mattered but how they felt about each other, right?

“I know we’ve had a few bumps along the road since we were last here,” Drew said softly, her voice choking with emotion, “but I for one don’t regret it. Do you?”

“Of course not.” Maisie grasped Drew’s hand, squeezing it tightly. “I guess it makes me feel foolish, knowing how it started, even if it did turn out for the best.”

“You really believe it did?” Drew asked.

“I have no doubt about it.” Maisie eased herself out of the car and gave Drew a kiss on the cheek. “My only regret, other than not remembering it, is that we didn’t have any of our loved ones there to see us get married.”

“That is a shame,” Drew agreed. “Well, let’s at least peek our heads in and see what it looks like, shall we?”

Maisie took ahold of Drew’s arm, her stomach fluttering as they got closer to the door. She didn’t know why she felt so nervous, but she wasn’t about to turn away. She had to admit she was a little bit curious to see inside.
