“Do you think they’ll—” Maisie began as Drew opened the door, but whatever she was about to ask jumped right out of her head, replaced by a different question entirely. “Mom?” Of all the things Maisie might have expected to find inside a Las Vegas wedding chapel, her mother was not one of them.

“There’s the bride!” Maisie’s mom held her arms open for a hug.

Maisie fell into the embrace, too stunned to process it. “What are you doing here?”

“Drew told me I had to be here, and no way was I going to miss it.” Maisie’s mom craned her neck to look at Drew. “You’re much taller in person than you are on Zoom.”

Maisie looked from Drew to her mom, and that was when she noticed the other people who were seated in the chapel’s pews. Andy, Hannah, Cord, Donna, and Cheryl. Immediately, her mental alarm bells started to ring. “Okay, what’s going on?”

Drew grinned as the rest of their friends and family laughed. “I wondered how long it would take.”

“I’m serious, Drew.” Maisie did her best to give her wife a scowl, though she was still too overcome with surprise to pull it off.

“I told you we’re recreating our lost night. This is the most important part.”

“We’re already married, though,” Maisie argued, a little bit of panic setting in. “We are, aren’t we? You didn’t actually file those annulment papers I signed.”

“Hell no,” Drew said. “I’m not enough of an idiot to take that big of a chance on convincing you to marry me twice.”

“Then what are we doing here?” By now, a man who looked remarkably like Elvis had stepped to the front of the chapel, and a woman who seemed to be running the place was approaching Maisie with a bouquet of flowers and a shimmery white veil.

“It’s five minutes to midnight, which means that almost exactly one year ago, we got married right here in this very place. But since we don’t remember, and none of our friends or family were there, I thought the best way to celebrate our first wedding anniversary would be to renew our vows.”

“Oh, Drew.” Maisie blinked rapidly to keep from crying as it all sank in. “I didn’t believe it, but I should’ve trusted you. This is the most romantic night in Vegas ever.”

“In that case…” Drew sank to one knee and held out a small velvet box. Inside were two gold bands, nothing fancy, but absolutely perfect for a rancher and her wife. “What do you say, Maisie? Wanna get hitched?”
