Page 56 of My Fight

“Hey,” she greets me as I approach. “Sorry, I didn’t want to wake you.” She gives me a small smile, lifting up the coffeepot. “Coffee?”

All I want is her, so I walk over to her in the kitchen and stand behind her, wrapping my arms around her, letting this dickhead know who she belongs to. I feel more settled as she leans back into me.

“Donovan, this is Carter Grange,” she introduces us, and I nod to him, not wanting my hands to leave her body to shake his hand.

“Carter,” he says with a nod, clearly knowing exactly who I am. He eyes me for a moment before looking back at Cat, lifting an eyebrow at her.

“It is fine, Donovan. Anything you need to say, you can say in front of Carter.” She sighs, and I rub her hip with my thumb as I kiss her softly in the crook of her shoulder, peering at Donovan from behind her.

Donovan clears his throat. “As I was saying, you have every right to get your money. From what I can pull from the records, there are millions that you are entitled to and that is before we take Ivy into consideration for parental support, which he hasn’t supplied at all.” I remain quiet, listening to the conversation as understanding washes over me that he is in fact her lawyer, not a lawyer she was dating.

Cat moves from me then, turning to grab a mug from the cupboard and filling it with coffee before passing it to me.

“I don’t want anything. All I want is for him to leave me alone,” she replies, and I look at him over the brim of the cup as I take a sip, and see him sigh.

“It is easier to get the money. It is going to be hard to remove yourself from him entirely. Are you sure you want to press ahead?” he asks, and my gaze swings to Cat in time to see her swallow nervously. Her eyes flick to me, and I can see the concern in them. I remain tight-lipped, but my nostrils flare, because no one is going to be touching a hair on her head ever again.

“I want to press ahead. I want him to leave me and Ivy alone, and I want to live a simple, safe life,” she says to Donovan while looking directly at me, and my jaw clenches. Fuck, I cannot wait to get my hands on this asshole.

“What about your father?” Donovan asks, and both Cat and I turn our attention back to him.

“What about him?” she asks, obviously surprised by Donovan’s questioning.

“I sent you the paperwork to sign for a restraining order after he hit you, but you haven’t returned it. I assume you don’t want to put that in place?” He looks at me, and I nod in agreement, because she needs to ensure she is safe from her father too.

“I don’t think so,” she says quietly, rubbing her eyes.

“Okay,” Donovan concedes, seeing her defeat, and he stands, grabbing his briefcase. “I will see you later in the week. Let me know if anything changes in the meantime.”

“Thanks, Donovan, I appreciate it,” Cat says, giving him a brief smile.

“Carter.” He looks at me and nods, which I return, before he turns and walks out the door. I wait until I hear the click, knowing that he has left, locking the door on the way out.

Smart man.

Cat stands near the kitchen sink, her back to me, as she starts cleaning up the dishes. I put my coffee down and go to her, standing behind her. Resting my hands on her shoulders, I run them up and down her arms before I settle them on her waist and hold her tight.

“I will look after you. You don’t need a single penny from him. I got you Cat. You and Ivy are safe with me,” I say into her ear, wanting her to understand she’s not alone. No matter how down she might be feeling about this situation.

She spins in my arms and looks up at me, her eyes glistening, and as I pull her tighter, she buries her head into my chest.

“Thanks, Carter. I appreciate it.” She pulls back from me a little, but my hands remain around her waist, not wanting to let her go. “So… last night...” she says, and I see a hint of blush come to her rosy cheeks.

“Hmmm. What was your favorite part?” I ask her, my hands now all over her body, running up and down her back, keeping her close to me.

The blush on her cheeks deepens.

“Was it when I kissed you here?” I ask her as I dip my head and kiss her on the neck, inhaling her scent as I do.

“Was it when I had you sit on my face and I tasted your sweet, sweet—”

“Carter!” she whispers a growl to me, which turns into a giggle when she realizes Ivy can’t hear us.

“You took my cock well last night, baby. Did you like that?”

“I liked it all. I also liked that you woke up in my bed,” she says, smiling softly, and I lean forward and press a gentle kiss on her plush lips.

“Best fucking night of my life.”
