“You’re right. It’s a bit of an assumption on my part, but you don’t seem to be much of a risk taker.” I tried to hide my smirk as I messed with him.

“Ha-ha, I see what you’re doing,” he said, with a return nudge. “I’m just not one to jump into the unknown. Plus, it’s not that I don’t like heights…I’m petrified of them.”

“Really? I never would have guessed,” I said, studying him curiously.

“I’ve become quite proficient at hiding my weaknesses.”

I pondered him for a moment. “How many people know this about you?”

He leant back into the padded seat and closed his eyes. “One.”

“Your fiancé?”

His left eye opened. “You.”

My heart skipped. “Oh.”

Grayson let out a long sigh. “Look, I’ll take you up there, but I’m staying at the bar.”

* * *

As much as I resisted, Grayson used his generous wallet to get us to the front of another queue at the famous Stratosphere Sky Jump. Lucky he did, because I was already chickening out with a mere glimpse out the window at the city below.

Sweat beads rolled down my neck at the realisation of what I was about to do. Jump off the 108th floor of the tallest tower in Las Vegas. What am I thinking!?

My heart started to pound as I pulled on the jumpsuit.

“Are you okay? You look green.” Grayson stood in front of me, analysing my expression as I sank into an empty chair, feeling defeated.

I swallowed down the lump in my throat. “Um, no…” Soooo no.

He pinched the bridge of his nose. “Is this the first time you’ve been up this high?”

“No,” I said, shaking my head. “I’ve been this high before.”

Grayson rested his hands on his hips and narrowed his eyes. “When?”

My shoulders dropped. “On the plane coming here.”

“Ooookay,” he replied, supressing his laughter.

I glanced out the window at the sea of sparkling lights. “I just didn’t think it would be so…so…”

“Far down?” Grayson didn’t follow my gaze. He kept his eyes fixed on mine.

Panic flooded my body. “The old me would’ve been fine with this, but the new me…well, I don’t take many risks these days.” I can’t afford to.

“You’ll be fine,” he said, resting his hand on my shoulder. “You’ve come this far. Don’t you want to cross it off your list?”

Tears welled as I realised this may be my only chance.

Grayson clenched his jaw. “I’ll do it, if you do it,” he blurted.

My mouth fell open. “What?”

He lifted his serious gaze to meet mine. “It’s a one-time offer.”

“You would really do that for me? A total stranger?” My eyes glazed over with emotion.
