His jaw flinched. “I know, I was there when he asked. You should’ve said no.”

I rolled my eyes, frustrated by his jealousy. “It’s not a date or anything. We’re just friends catching up.”

“Does he know that?” His eyes never left mine as he waited for my answer.

“Yes! No…I dunno! It’s none of your business anyway. Who I go out with, outside of work, has nothing to do with you.”

He stepped closer, pushing me further into the stall until the door swung closed behind him. His swirling green eyes penetrated deeper. “It has everything to do with me.”

“It’s over between us, Gray. I thought I made myself clear.”

Grayson pursed his lips. “Shouldn’t I get a say in that?”

“Why? Because you’re my boss?” I growled, attempting to shove past him.

With a firm grasp of my sides, Grayson pushed me up against the wall. His hot breath grazed my ear. “No…because you’re mine.”

I gasped for air as his tongue trailed down my collarbone, and moaned when he ran his hands down my body, pausing at the hem of my dress. He slipped one underneath, and trailed his finger along my seam. I drew in a shaky breath, already on the verge of release.

“You’re still wet,” he murmured with a smirk, his eyes locked on mine. “Perhaps we should take these off to dry?”

With an unsteady nod, the tiny piece of fabric dropped to my ankles and Grayson’s lips crashed down on mine. His consuming kiss muffled my scream as his fingers entered me, driving in again and again, until I could take no more. Shuddering over his hand, Grayson supported my weight with his other, and lay a gentle kiss on my forehead.

The door to the restroom opened and I pushed Grayson away, glaring at him as I lifted my panties and adjusted my dress. After patting down my dishevelled hair, I exited the cubicle and nodded politely to the wide-eyed lady reapplying her lipstick, before rushing out of the restroom.

I returned to the table just as dessert was being served, still trying to catch my breath.

Pete smiled up at me as I took a seat. “Great timing. Are you all dry now?”

I smiled tightly as Grayson made his way back to his table. “Yes, all good.”

We ate our dessert in silence until an unwelcome voice drew our attention.

“Josie, Peter, fancy running into you two here,” Grayson said, standing by our table. He rested his hand on the back of my chair and I almost choked on my soufflé when his thumb grazed my shoulder.

My cheeks grew red and I forced myself to smile. Pete mimicked my greeting.

“How’s that new job working out for you?”

“It’s great,” Pete said, puffing out his chest as he gazed across at me. “Looks like a few things are working out for me since leaving Maude.” He reached for Grayson’s hand. “No hard feelings?”

My eyes widened. God, I hope Grayson washed his hands.

Grayson grinned. “No, not at all.” As they shook hands, Grayson peeked down at me and winked. He looked so smug, I wanted to punch him. “I’ll see you later, Josie.”

I gave him a quick nod, but looked away when he smiled.

Pete leant back into his chair as he watched him leave. “You know, he’s not so bad.”

I scoffed. “You think?”

The restaurant wasn’t too far from my apartment, so Pete walked me home. He was doing and saying all the perfect things, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the fleeting look of despair in Grayson’s eyes before he distracted me with his hands.

As I approached my apartment stairs, Pete tugged me back. “This isn’t going to work out between us, is it?”

I lifted my hand to his face as my eyes welled. He was so handsome and lovely, and I hated myself for not making it work. “I’m sorry. It’s just…”

“There’s someone else, isn’t there?”
