“Do you like living in New York?”

“I love it.” So much.

He smiled knowingly. “Yeah, me too.”

“Oh, I assumed most of the guests flew over from the west coast for the wedding.”

He smiled tightly, breaking eye contact. “I’m originally from there, but moved here after high school.”

We continued to chat about what we loved about New York and I found him to be much more down-to-earth than most of the other people I’d met that day. Scott glanced upwards just as Grayson returned, and sighed.

Grayson narrowed his eyes. “Scott Blackwood.”

Scott swallowed and offered a reluctant nod. “Grayson.”

“It’s been a long time,” Grayson followed, expressionless.

“It has.”

They exchanged a look I couldn’t decipher, but didn’t speak another word.

Applause filled the room and glasses began to clink as the newly married couple made their grand entrance. Snap. We quietly watched and listened to all the formalities, but Grayson kept distracting me.

“Will you stop staring?” I whispered as the bride and groom walked onto the dancefloor for their first dance. I struggled to focus my camera, so I turned and took a photo of him instead.

He grinned. “I can’t help it. I never thought I’d see you again.” Snap.

I blushed. I knew exactly how he felt.

After Hank and Sabrina did their customary dip and kiss, everyone was asked to join them on the dancefloor.

Grayson turned to me. “Before all these vultures descend on you, will you dance with me?”

I lifted my eyes to his, but he was staring at my legs. My dress was hitched dangerously high, and my cheeks grew red.

“Your legs look fucking amazing,” he whispered as he stood up.

I sucked in a breath as an unmistakable tingle travelled straight to my core. Glancing over at the filling dance floor, I was about to decline when he took my hand and pulled me onto my feet.

“I guess I don’t have a choice,” I said, stumbling along after him. I wasn’t planning to dance tonight, so my shoe choice was much more daring than what I was used to. I didn’t regret wearing them though. Grayson was so damn tall, I’d wear stilts to get closer to those eyes.

He pulled me into the middle of the floor. “Your eyes said yes.”

I fit perfectly into his large muscular frame, and we began to sway. All I wanted to do was nestle my face into his neck and inhale his earthy scent, but my camera lay awkwardly between us.

His hot breath grazed my ear. “So, tell me, how’s that boyfriend of yours?”

“What boyfriend?” I asked, holding back a smile.

He chuckled and pulled me closer, nudging the camera out of the way. “Best. Answer. Ever.”

My heart pounded against his chest as I breathed him in.

“What happened?” he asked.

I blushed and looked away. “He proposed.”

“The nerve,” he uttered sarcastically, shaking his head.
