“I’m surprised you saw anything with that leggy blonde all over you.” I squeezed my eyes shut. I did not just say that. I did not just say that.

He smirked. “Did you also see them both leave with my brother?”

I screwed up my nose. “Eww.”

Grayson smiled, seemingly pleased with my reaction.

An awkward silence followed as I wrestled with the temptation of inviting him in. “Well, thank you for walking me home,” I blurted, edging towards the stairs.

He pressed his lips together and gave a gentlemanly nod.

“And I’m sorry about your cell phone,” I continued. The guilt had been weighing on me.

Grayson chuckled. “I’m pretty sure I deserved it.”

“Yeah, you did,” I said, trying not to smile. “But I still shouldn’t have done it.”

“Well, nevertheless, thank you for retrieving all my numbers. I did find one problem though.”

“What’s that?” I asked, worried Reed had missed something.

“I appear to be missing a very important number.”

“Oh…who’s that?”

Grayson smirked. “A particular staff member. She’s exceptional at her job, but a total pain in my ass.”

I turned my head to hide my fleeting grin. “Linda has a list of all the work numbers. I’m sure she’ll give it to you.”

“I know, but I’m not sure if this specific employee would like me calling her.”

“Depends which version of you is calling, I guess.” The side of my mouth lifted as I bounded up the stairs and punched in the security code. The door buzzed and I pushed it open, turning back before I entered. “Goodnight, Gray.”

His warm smile made my heart race. “Goodnight, Josie.”

Tension was at an all-time high Monday morning as everyone adapted to their new roles and responsibilities. I spent the entire weekend listening to every New York based band and musician in Susan’s files, and added their upcoming tour dates to my calendar. I wasn’t sure when I was going to get any sleep, but that’s what coffee was for…right?

I glanced over at Grayson’s empty office and found my hydrangea where I left it, barely clinging to life. He didn’t water it! Pulling off a fluro-pink sticky note, I scrawled ‘Water me *sad face*’, before sneaking into his office and slapping it to the front of the pot. There was no way he could miss it. Feeling better, I returned to my office and set to work, waiting for Grayson to return from his morning meeting with Adam and Marlene.

An hour later, the click of his door grabbed my attention and I watched him settle at his desk. He picked up the note and smirked, before scrunching it in his hand and throwing it in the bin. My mouth fell open. Wondering if he was toying with me, I waited and waited. But he clearly had no intention of resurrecting the plant.

With a scowl, I stood and marched over to his closed door.

“Come in, Josie,” he called, a moment before my knuckles collided with the glass.

I stepped in and found him leaning back in his chair with an irritating grin. He intertwined his fingers as I approached.

“It will die if you don’t water it,” I said, crossing my arms and glaring at him.

He chuckled, and ran his fingers through his hair. “I’ll just add it to Linda’s long list of jobs to do.”

My shoulders slumped. “No, don’t do th…You seriously can’t water one measly plant?”

“I’m a busy person,” he said, with a shrug.
