“Seems…fair,” Adam said, turning back to me. “Good job, Josie.”

“Thanks, Adam.”

Grayson’s eyes shot to mine and narrowed. His jaw clenched as he panned back to his brother. Adam grinned and patted Grayson on the back, before chuckling all the way back to his office.

“Did I just miss something?” I whispered.

Grayson rubbed his stubble and shook his head, but his shoulders remained tense. “Listen, I’ll get a new laptop sent to your apartment. Feel free to work from home as much as you need. Go home and get some sleep.”

“Oh, okay, thanks…” My forehead furrowed as I returned to my office. “I guess?”

I woke up late in the afternoon to the ping of my phone. My heart quickened when his name appeared on the screen, but I frowned when I read the message.

Grayson: Since when do you call my brother by his first name?

Although I wanted to, I didn’t respond. His text rubbed me up the wrong way.

To blow off some steam, I threw on jeans and a t-shirt and took Luci to the dog park. I let him off his leash and he went nuts; running laps, rolling in mud and sniffing as many dog butts as he could. I just sat on a park bench watching in awe. Dogs had it good.

“You didn’t respond to my message.”

I looked up to find Grayson, still suited up, gazing down at me. “How did you know I was here?”

“You weren’t home. I guessed. Now, why didn’t you respond?”

“I didn’t like the question,” I muttered, returning my gaze to Luci. “But if you must know, he asked me to call him Adam.”

“That’s even worse,” he said, running his fingers through his hair.

“What? How exactly?”

Grayson shook his head, bewildered. “Are you that blind?”

“You’re talking in riddles, Gray.”

“He has a thing for you. Fuck. Every male in the office does, it’s driving me crazy.”

I burst out laughing. “What!?” I glanced around, expecting to find a hidden camera. “Are you fucking with me?”

Grayson sat down beside me and loosened his tie. “You’re so damn clueless.”

“Gee, thanks,” I said, rolling my eyes.

“I didn’t just send you home today because you needed sleep, I sent you home because of those damn pants you had on. Jesus, Josie, you were every boys’ wet dream.”

My cheeks grew red. “I never intended to wear them to work.”

Grayson moistened his lips. “But I’m so fucking glad you did.”

“You’re a very confusing man, Grayson Harlow.”

“I just can’t think straight around you.”

My heart fluttered as I glanced across at his smile. We sat in a comfortable silence, until Luci started getting verbally abused by a chihuahua.

“Dammit,” I cried, running over to pull Luci away from the incessant yapping.
