Grayson’s mouth curved into a smile. “You know best,” he uttered, lobbing it onto the kitchen bench. “I guess a little snack before dinner couldn’t hurt.”

He hitched my body up around his and carried me to his bedroom to start his first course.

Grayson was right. Clothing was not required over the next two nights. Every time we dressed was pointless; it wasn’t long before we tore each other’s clothes off again.

“What are we doing, Gray?” I sighed, staring up at the ceiling from his enormous bed.

He ran his finger down my arm, leaving goose bumps in his wake. “I thought it was obvious,” he said, with an endearing smirk.

“You know what I mean.” I rolled onto my side and poked him in the chest. “You’re my boss. We shouldn’t be doing this.”

He took my offending hand and entwined his fingers with mine, bringing them to his lips. “Is this about Adam’s stupid rules again?”

My forehead wrinkled. “No, this is about my rules. I vowed never to get involved with someone I work with again, not after Pete.”

“Another reason to hate him.”

“Be nice. He’s still my friend…well, I hope he is anyway.”

Grayson sighed. “I get it. I feel the same about Mel. We were best friends before we made the colossal mistake of getting involved. As much as she drives me crazy, I’ll always care about her.”

“How is she doing?” I asked, wary of crossing the line.

Sadness flickered through his eyes. “Okay. I’m trying to distance myself from her. She needs to know she’s capable on her own.”

“And your parents? Have they eased up on you?”

He rolled onto his back and took my hand with him, resting it on his chest. “I’m avoiding their calls.”

“Oh, but what if…”

He laughed. “Don’t worry, if it was important, they’d send their messenger pigeon.”

“Adam?”

“Yep.”

“Are you sure you aren’t adopted? You’re nothing like your brother.”

“He’s not as bad as everyone thinks he is. He puts up a good front, but he’s just as fucked up as the rest of us.”

My eyes widened as a distressing thought crossed my mind. “You’re not going to tell him, are you? I don’t want him, or anyone else at work, thinking less of me because of what we’re doing.”

“No one will think less of you,” he said, squeezing my hand. “Plus, if they do, I’ll fire them.”

“Gray!”

“I’m joking.” Grayson chuckled as he rolled back onto his side. “As much as I want to,” he said, tucking a stray hair behind my ear. “I think it’s safer to keep this between us…for now.”

My lips curled upward. “So, we can stay in this uncomplicated bubble?”

Grayson grinned and pulled the bed sheet over our heads as he leaned over to kiss my neck. “Yes, we can stay.”

Sunday morning came around too quickly and I reluctantly edged my way out of bed.

“Pyjamas till noon,” Grayson groaned, grabbing my waist and dragging me back under the sheets. “Your rule, not mine.”
