I chuckled. “The singer…?” I pointed to the stage.

“Oh! Since…forever.” He took a giant gulp of his whiskey as his cheeks turned pink.

An arm appeared around Adam’s shoulders. “Oh yeah, Adam here is a huge fan.”

My heart leapt at the sound of Grayson’s voice.

“What are you doing here?” Adam asked, pushing his brother off him.

“I could ask you the same question,” he said as his gaze travelled to mine and softened. “Josie,” he greeted with a nod.

I smiled tightly, but his presence infuriated me. I told him I could handle it. Dropping my gaze to my camera, I pretended to fiddle with the settings as they spoke.

“How did you even get a ticket? I thought it was sold out,” Adam asked, turning back to the bar to order another drink.

Grayson shrugged. “It is. But I managed to convince someone outside to sell me theirs.”

I peeked up to find Adam rolling his eyes, before turning to me. “Josie, you want another one?”

I was about to reply when Grayson intercepted. “Since when do you drink on the job?”

My mouth dropped open and I narrowed my gaze at the insinuation.

“Whoa, Gray, give her a break, she’s been drinking water all night.”

“Oh,” he muttered, lowering his eyes, clearly realising his mistake.

Blood crept up my face and I took a deep breath to calm myself. “I’m fine, Adam, but thank you for asking.” I swallowed the lump in my throat. “Excuse me. I have work to do.”

With a forced smile, I moved away to get a better position before the show started. I threw Grayson a sideways glance, before lifting the camera to my face to hide the tears that welled behind. Unfortunately, little did they realise, I could still hear their conversation.

“You’re really not going to let me near her, are you?”

“Nope. She’s too important.” Grayson paused. “…to the business.”

“There are other photographers.”

“Not like her.”

Adam went quiet, but I could feel the weight of his stare. “I bet she’s great in bed.”

Grayson growled. “Just stay the fuck away from her, will you?”

“Oooh, I see…” His brother chuckled.

“What?”

“You like her.”

Silence.

“I wonder what Melanie would think about that.”

“Melanie doesn’t need to know shit,” Grayson snarled.

“Well this just got a whole lot more interesting. So, do you reckon she’d be up for it?”

“Up for what?”
