I’m not picky at the moment. Not after living with the fear of not knowing where she’s been for a few days.

“Yes, boss.” With that, he exits, meeting Junior at the door and they make quick work of getting the detective out of the restaurant and then off the pier.

Now, it’s just the two of us:

Alone. Angry. Hurt.

Her skin is soft against my fingertips as I slowly drag the pads of each up and down the back of her leg, pushing the back of her dress higher with each pass. I also don’t miss the low sigh she emits after each caress.

“Are you ready to talk?”

“Yes.” Low. Meek. It’s completely false. Yet I don’t hesitate and lower her to the ground, making sure to ease her slowly, rubbing my hard cock across her clothed front.

Christ, the sight that greets me once she’s standing is delicious, and I step back. “Hola, bebe.”

Hard nipples. Goose bumps. Parted lips.

“You asshole!” Amberlyn's hand connects with my cheek, and the sting feels like a jolt of electricity in my veins. Thrumming and heated. It’s harsh and fast, leaving behind this all-consuming yearning for her touch. I’ll never be without her again. “This isn’t a date. He followed me here, like you, apparently.”

“I’ve missed you, too.”

“What part of leave me alone, don’t you understand? Leave.”

“No.” I take a step closer while she moves back, trying to evade me, but I’m done. She wanted me, she has me. We’re not leaving this island until she understands how devoted I am.

“Are you insane? That’s an MDP detective you picked up. If they pin this on you, it’ll bring heat the family doesn’t need. What were you thinking?” She could care less about Uriel; this is just another weak attempt to create conflict, so I don’t touch her.

“That you being in danger is not something I’ll ever tolerate.”

“Seriously? That’s the best you can come up with.” She gives me a sardonic laugh, a brave act, but I catch each shiver. The way her shoulders hunch in. “Why don’t you go feed that line to the whore sleeping at your parents’ house.”

“Your life being in danger is idiotic?” Now I’m angry, nearly snarling the words at her. “Anything but you being safe and happy is unacceptable to me. Don’t you ever say that shit again.”

“Bullshit.” This time she jams a manicured finger into my chest, mimicking my defensive stance, eyes spitting fire. “You left me. You broke every late-night promise.”

“To protect you.”

“Stop with the lies.” Tears spring to her eyes but Amberlyn looks away, blinking rapidly so they don’t fall. “What have I ever done for you to continue hurting me like this?”

“Bebe, not everything is as it seems.”

“Just, fuck you.” I hate the defeat in her voice. “If you ever cared for me, at the very least as a friend, leave. Go on with your life, and I’ll do the same with mine.” Her high ponytail has come a little undone and a few wisps of hair curl around her cheek; I want nothing more than to sweep them back but grit my teeth instead. “All you do is force your presence on me. Make me think you want me—more—but turn around and leave every single time. I’m done, Ivan. There’s nothing more I can give you.”

“You don’t mean that.”

“I do.”

“Then you leave me no choice. I’m sorry.” Whatever she sees in my eyes makes hers widen; there’s a tinge of fear in them, and I hate it. This. Where we are. And I hold the blame, know that, but it doesn’t stop me from advancing on her. “Run.”

“What?” Voice shaky. Breathing choppy.

“You want me to chase you to the ends of the earth, then run. Just know that I will always follow.”

“You’re insane, Ivan. Just go. Stop this.”

“Never, amorcito. I exist with you.”

“Don’t do this to me.” This time a tear does fall, but when I try to wipe it away, she moves away. “I’m begging you.”
