My fists clench under the table. How I haven’t rammed his face into the steel by now is a miracle beyond mystery.

“I could lean over this table and kill you, right now,” I hiss at him through my teeth.

“Go ahead. If it bothers you enough, you’d be doing me a favor. I’m serving a life sentence for what that fucked up little whore did to Frank.” He holds his arms out. Tempting me. The room is full of guards and visitors. There would be no getting out of it. No clean-up in the world could erase me killing him in front of these many people.

I’m not a rash person, I’m smart and I know exactly how I’m gonna make him suffer. I release my fists, bringing them up and crossing them in front of me on the table, cooling myself off before I speak.

“Nah, it doesn’t bother me. You wanna know why?” I don’t give him the chance to answer. “‘Cause I’m gonna spend the rest of my life sinking my cock into your daughter’s sweet little pussy. I’m gonna take care of her, and love her with everything I got. I’m gonna do all the things you never did. And as much pleasure as it would give me to snap your neck right here, I ain't gonna. Because I can’t do any of those things for her from inside these walls.” I lean even closer to him. “So I’ll kill you every night in my sleep. While your little Evangeline is tucked up safe under my arms. Where no one can hurt her. Not even her sick cunt of a daddy.” I watch his face drop and know I’ve won. But I’m not done yet, not even close.

“You see that guy over there,” my eyes roll over to a big brute of a man two tables over. His long ginger hair is pulled tight in a ponytail, and he has tattoos covering every inch of his muscle-strained arms. I know that when he stands he’s almost seven-foot tall. “That’s—”

“I know who he is,” Rogue’s dad interrupts me, and the fear that sets in his eyes cools the blood beneath my skin a little.

“Buzz watches over Dodge and some of the other brothers in here as a favor for the club. And in return, we take care of his wife on the outside. We also pay the guards to give him what he needs here…”

I watch his skin turn white

“You know he likes ass. Right?” I keep my hard face fixed on him as he looks back across at the tower of a man, who's being visited by his wife.

“Apparently he put his last bitch in the infirmary, something to do with internal tearing.” I watch the lump disappear from his throat as fear swallows it back.

“He gets real grouchy when he hasn’t got a play thing. Guards struggle to keep him in check. Guess it’s a good thing we got him hooked up for the foreseeable.'' The man’s timing couldn’t be any more perfect when he looks over at me from the other side of the room and winks the eye with the large scar running through the middle of it.

“Please,” Rogue's pathetic excuse of a father begs.

Now it’s my turn to laugh, but not for long. I want to eat up all his fear before I leave, take it home with me and remember what it looks like on him during the times I have to comfort my girl from one of her nightmares.

I get so close to his face that my nose almost touches his. Sweat is pouring from his pores as his eyes flick between me and his new bunkmate. And I tap his cheek with my hand.

“Save the pleading for Buzz, I hear he likes it…” I whisper, standing up and raising my chin at Buzz before I leave the room.

When I get back to the club, Rogue is sitting playing poker with Squealer, her feet propped up on the table with a beer in one hand and her cards fanned out in the other.

“Hey.” She smiles over at me, and I go straight to her and kiss those pretty painted lips. I check her hand before I make my way over to the bar for a drink, and Squeal is gonna have to have a good one to beat it.

He’s been out of hospital for a week now, and not being able to ride is killing him. He’ll be back on his feet soon enough, but until then, Rogue has taken it as her responsibility to keep him entertained.

“How did the visit go?” Skid asks under his breath, smacking his palm into my shoulder, I look at it and he quickly moves it. A lot has changed since Rogue set my life into a whirlwind but I’m still me, and human contact that doesn’t come from her still ain’t all that welcomed.

“Could have killed the fucker,” I admit.

“Yeah well, that would be giving him the easy road,” Skid seethes. I’ve promised Rogue I’ll never tell him about what Chop did to her, and I won’t. The man doesn’t need anything else to hurt him. I’m just pleased that he’s sticking around for her.

We both watch her take Squeal’s money, looking pretty smug with herself as Squeal throws his cards down in a strop and tells her he ain’t gonna play with her anymore. Grabbing up her money, she leaves the table, fanning the bills in front of her face as she approaches us.

“Good work.” Skid balances his huge arm across her shoulder,

He’s the only guy around here who can touch her without sending me crazy.

“I gotta head out on a run to Utah, I’ll only be gone a few days,” he explains to her. “This fight with Ivan ain’t over, you gotta lie low and do what the brothers tell ya until it passes, you hear me?”

“Scout’s honor.” Rogue lifts up her hands and rolls her eyes at him.

“I mean it, Rogue, you’re one of us now, you let us protect you.”

The tiny smile that Rogue gives him back is enough to tell us that despite her protests, she enjoys being a part of our fucked up family.

“You feelin' happy, darlin’?” I shift her between my legs and force her chin up so her eyes look into mine, they could never lie to me. And after being with that man today, I need to know that she’s got everything she wants.
