“You're taking Ludo with you.” I narrow my eyes. As much as I hate to admit it, she's right. This way, at least I will know Violetta is staying out of trouble.

“Of course,” Evelyn agrees, the smile she’s giving me makes me want to throw her on the bed and fuck her before I leave.

“Fine,” I growl, snatching up my jacket.

“I’ll speak to her, try and find out what all this is about,” she promises, kissing my cheek softly as I move past her on my way out the door.

I don’t deserve her tenderness, and moments like this make me realize what I’m going to miss out on by not having her forever. The way she deals with problems and is capable of counteracting my temper would make us a good team.

“I’ll see you later, sir,” she smirks, and it’s the cutest damn thing I’ve ever seen. I swear if I didn’t know that my baby sister was standing out in the hall waiting for her, or if I didn’t have someone to slice open today, I’d throw her on my bed and make sure I fucked her hard enough to be incapable of leaving the house.

“Thank you.” I kiss her forehead then walk out the door, and sneer at the little brat waiting out in the hall as I pass her.

“Do you have a location for me yet?” I ask Ludo when I get to my office and collect my guns. Before breakfast, I’d asked him to do some looking into Evelyn’s mom’s boyfriend. I want to know if they’re still together, I want to know where he lives, who he works for, and what time he takes a shit in the morning because I’m going to fuck him up for what he did.

“I do.” Ludo hands me an address on a piece of paper. “He’s still living with her mom, works in a car garage a few miles away.”

I nod as I take in what he’s saying, and glance down at the address in my hand.

“Call Petyr and have him prepare the jet, tell him we need to book a flight path to New Mexico.”

“We’re going to New Mexico, now?” Ludo looks back at me like I've just grown an extra fucking head.

“No. Me and Niko are going to New Mexico. You’re watching out for Evelyn and Violetta today. I don’t want anyone to know she’s back from Rome yet.”

“With all respect…”

“With all respect, shut your mouth. Ludo, you work for me now, not my father. I’m trying to keep all these fucking balls in the air and the last thing I need is someone questioning my judgment. I need to know that the girls are safe. And right now, you’re the only person I trust with that job.”

“Can the situation in New Mexico not wait a few days?” he sighs.

“Not if I’m going to focus on anything else.” I shove both guns into my holster and leave before he has the chance to try to talk me out of anything.

***

It’s three hours later when the jet my family owns touches down in New Mexico. My blood is pumping, and my anger is about to boil over. An hour and a half long flight, with only the thoughts of what he might have done to her absorbing all the space in my head, has done me—and him—no favors.

The town car that Ludo promised would be waiting for us is there when we step off the jet and Niko takes the wheel, immediately typing the address to the garage, where Kevin works, into the sat-nav system.

I tap my fingers against the door handle all the way there, Evelyn would never have told me about what had happened to her if I hadn't pushed her. This asshole could have easily gotten away with what he did.

When we arrive at our destination, I get out of the car and I take some time to assess the space around me. There are rusted out chassis and scrap piled up everywhere, and I figure the metal shack that the music is blasting out of is where I’ll find Kevin.

Niko follows me as I approach the door, and I stand for a few seconds watching the guy bent over the hood of a car. He's singing along with the radio, that he’s got turned up too loud to hear me coming.

“Kevin Poole,” I call out his name over the music, and when the ugly fucker lifts his head and turns it toward me, I can tell by the worried look on his face that I’ve found my target.

“Who wants to know?” He stands straighter and I take a few steps closer. Then before I give him an answer, I grab the back of his head and slam his face into the framework of the open hood. He grips at the chassis to steady himself, and I quickly release the rod to drop the hood and crush his hands. He cries out in agony and falls to his knees, exactly how you’d expect a weak bastard who gets his kicks from touching up young girls to do.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” he yells, dribble spilling from the corners of his mouth as he tries to breathe through the pain.

“Stand the fuck up.” I drag him back onto his feet.

“I heard something today…” Taking out my gun, I press it hard against his temple. “You hurt someone who I care a lot about, and I’m here to ensure you pay the price for it.” I speak slowly so he understands me, agony tends to be a distraction.

“Evelyn Lane was just a girl when you touched her. You sick, revolting bastard.” I lower the gun and take my first shot, putting a bullet straight through his boot. Kevin screams like a little bitch and drops to his knees again,

“Stand up, you lame piece of shit,” I yell at him, pressing the gun under his chin and forcing him to struggle back up onto his one good foot. “She left home because of you, and you took the last person she had in the world from her.”
