“Your uncle wanted to protect you from knowing who you were. I’ll be honest, Shaniya, if you had married Tawk I don’t think you would have ever seen this. But there’s been a change in him lately. I think we have the Souls to thank for that,” she admits, almost shamefully.

“Anyway, me and your uncle wish you and Troj all the best,” she hugs me tight.

“Don’t judge him too quickly.” She looks down at the photo. “Your mother never got the chance to tell him about you, or the fact that your grandfather was prepared to give his blessing. At the time it all seemed very hopeless for them.”

“Thank you.” I kiss her cheek before she leaves to return to the village, and I sit at the table staring at the photo of the man who made me, and wonder where he is now.

“You have to come with me right now!” Maddy bursts through the door looking panicked, and I immediately drop the photo and get up.

“What is it, is it Troj?”

“No, Troj is fine, but I need you to follow me.” She grabs hold of my hand, giving me no choice as she pulls me outside and rushes us toward her cabin.

I have no idea what I’m about to walk into, and my stomach flips over on itself when she opens the door and forces me inside.

“Surprise!”

I almost jump out of my skin when I hear the loud shriek and see all the women in front of me. Ella, Grace, Rogue, and Abby. As well as Dyanni, Tayen and shockingly, my aunt who instead of returning to the village is standing beside Marilyn.

“Welcome to your bachelorette party,” Maddy explains as she squeezes me from behind, then slides a headband with a white veil onto my head.

“A what?” I giggle, overwhelmed to see everyone here together.

“You people will throw a party for anything,” Tayen laughs, shocking me when she accepts the glass of wine that Marilyn hands her.

“Get these on ya head.” Rogue pushes another headband on to Dyanni, hers have two springs on, and I blush for her when I see what looks like a man’s penis wobbling on the end of them.

“This is incredible, you guys are amazing,” I manage, feeling a little choked up as a warm tingle spreads under my skin. One that tells me that everything is going to be okay.

“It was actually all Rogue’s idea,” Maddy admits humbly.

“Shut up, Little Miss Sunshine, I have a rep to protect around here.” Rogue flicks the blonde hair off her shoulder and scowls. I still can’t be sure when that girl’s being serious or sarcastic.

“Let’s get the party started.” Maddy claps her hands together. “Rogue took on the responsibility of games, so what’s first?” She clears her throat nervously.

“I gotcha, bitch.” Rogue stands up on cue, and heads for the table grabbing up a bag and digging inside.

“Have I got some fun planned for us.” She pulls out a poster, and whistles as she pins it onto the bathroom door, slowly opening it out, all the way to the floor. I look around the room and watch everyone’s face turn confused when they see the life-sized poster in front of them. Rogue seems unfazed by everyone’s reaction and delves back inside the bag, pulling out a laminated cut out of a penis and a blindfold.

My auntie drops the canapé she’s about to put in her mouth onto her lap.

“Pin the penis on Prez,” Rogue announces, looking pleased with herself. “Who's first up?” She lifts the penis up in her hand.

“You do realize I can’t possibly play this game, don’t you?” Ella stares at the scene in front of her, mortified.

“I’m up.” Marilyn wastes no time stepping forward, ripping the cut-out from Rogue’s fingers.

“Now that’s the spirit,” Rogue tells her as she starts to blindfold her.

“I'm so sorry,” Mads whispers to me under her breath.

“Don’t be…” I look around the room to see my auntie laughing, even if her cheeks are a little flushed, and Tayen and Dyanni are joining the line to play along.

“…This is perfect,” I tell her, happy tears filling my eyes, as I step up to join them.

“All I’m sayin’, Trojy boy, is that if you’d have asked me to be your best man we’d be watching naked ladies dance right now,” Squeal informs me, clearly unimpressed with the poker game Jessie’s organized for my Bachelor night.

“Remind me never to ask him to be my best man,” he scoffs as we head over to the table to take our seats with the others
