“How fast that happens depends on you. I’ve got all night. And I promise I will make you suffer for every second of it if I have to.” I pull back my arm and take a long, hard swing, landing the bat full power right between his legs.

The sorry fucker’s eyes stretch out their sockets as he drops to the ground in front of me. And when I kick him to roll him on his back, his tied together hands clutch over his swollen cock and balls.

“Who was the man in the mask?” I ask him, gripping at his hair and dragging him to the back wall. His silence earns him another smash of the bat, this time straight across his ugly face. He spits blood and what looks like a tooth, then shakes his head fearfully.

“Not so brave now are ya, rapist cunt.” I slam the end of the bat into his guts. And he groans out more pain.

I can feel the eyes of all my brothers behind me. They know how much I need this, and they want it for me. I may have lost myself for a while, but I never fuckin’ lost them.

“Tell me what you know, before I force this bat all the way up your ass.”

The guy goes to talk, but chokes and gags on the blood-tinged vomit that ejects from his mouth.

“I want a name.” I use the top end of the bat to lift up his chin and pin his head back to the wall.

“I don’t have a name,” he manages.

And when I go to take another swing, he forces out more words.

“He’s a cop… Some big shot detective. That’s all I fucking know. I swear,” he flinches and waits for the impact of my next blow. But it doesn’t come. I drop the bat from my hands and feel my blood run cold.

“What the fuck did he just say?” Jessie steps up beside me, joined by Prez.

“Hawker?” I look at my best friend in shock. This can’t be right.

“Where’s Roswell?” Prez calls out.

“I’m here,” he struggles to push through the boys to stand with us.

“Hawker?” I repeat, staring at the weak assed wreck on the floor.

“I didn’t know his name. Just that he wanted to be sure the girl wouldn’t talk about what she saw.” He spits more blood out onto the floor. “He was pretty mad you won the fight.”

“No… No way,” Roswell shakes his head, not accepting it.

“You sure about that?” Jessie checks, crouching down to grab the asshole by his balls then squeezing.

“Yes,” he squeaks.

“What the fuck?” He stands back up. “You know what that means?” Jess looks between me and Prez in shock.

“Hawker killed Danny,” Roswell slumps back onto the wooden chair that Jessie usually ties his victims to, staring into the floor in front of him.

“He was behind all this,” Jessie thinks out loud as he pieces everything together. “It was his idea to have Cooper use the reservation for his site, that fucker was killing two birds with one stone, shut us down and get his witness out of town.” He paces the floor. “He killed Danny. Okay, we don’t know why yet, but he let Shaniya go. That was a rash move, he must have regretted it afterwards.”

“Then he saw her here,” I add. “He came here when the girls were protesting about the fight outside church, and he’d have fucking seen her,” I explain, shuddering when I recall the way he’d looked at her that day.

“He’d have seen the photos Cooper had of her with you and panicked.” Jessie plays it all out in his head. “Danny left town when he ditched Abby here, right?” Jessie looks over to Nyx, who immediately nods back.

“Said he had shit to deal with.” Nyx shrugs.

“What if he’d found out Hawker was corrupt?”

“No, Danny would have come to me about something like that,” Roswell speaks up again.

“What was he doing back in town the night he got killed? He never contacted you or Abby to let you know he was back,” Jessie makes a point to the confused old man.

“Things are starting to make a little sense,” Prez nods. “It also explains why Hawker’s slipped out of town so fast. He saw what we did to the Albanians, probably figured Cooper and Alteo were dead too when he couldn’t make contact. He knew it was only a matter of time before we got on to him too. Things were closing in around him.”
