“I don’t know. I waited outside her place last night like you told me to. A squad car dropped her off. I made sure she got in okay and then left. I’m about to head over there now and check in on her,” he answers.

“I need you to drive out here and get me first so I can fix this. Send Storm or Tawk to check her place out,” I bark at him before hanging up the phone to try Alex again.

It goes straight to voicemail, and the panic in my chest builds higher. I try Roswell again but get nothing, and by the time Screwy rolls up in the club's cage, I’ve punched the police station wall enough times to make my knuckles bleed.

“You hear anything?” I hop into the passenger seat and slam my palm on the dash when my brother shakes his head.

“Stupid fucking bitch.” I hit at it again before scrubbing my hand over my face.

“Why’d she do it, Screw?” I’m so mad at her. Why does she have to be so stubborn?

“Maybe for the same reason you did,” he tells me calmly, keeping his eyes on the road. “She loves you, Squeal.”

“Fuck!” I breathe out, letting my head drop back against the seat and trying to calm myself. I had this all figured, and now, I really don’t know how I’m gonna get us out of this shit. Alex can’t go to jail. She can’t go to fucking jail.

Screw pulls up outside the Manitou Springs Station, and I don’t wait for the cage to stop before I open the door and jump out. The station door almost comes off in my hands as I rip it open and charge toward a shocked-looking Lucille.

“Where’s Alex?” I ask, feeling all the blood heating under my skin.

“She, um, they took her.” Lucille looks up at me, petrified. All she’s ever seen from me is the fun, clubhouse Squealer, never the rip your throat out to get a fucking answer version.

“Took her where?” I punch the desk, causing pain to slice through my already opened flesh. I fucking welcome it.

“Colorado Springs,” I turn around and see Roswell, the old man's been looking tired and worn for a while, but right now, he looks devastated.

“You let her go?”

“I had no choice; she went over my head and made a full confession.”

“I made a full confession.” I slam my hand into my own chest. Hearing the words out loud, knowing there's no going back from what she’s done, makes my legs turn boneless, and I slump into one of the plastic chairs and pinch the bridge of my nose to stop the tears of fury from spilling out.

“No offense, Squealer, but what does your word mean against a cop? Especially one who's got everything to lose and one hell of a motive.”

“So what do we do now?” I ask, wiping my eyes and stepping up. This can’t be it. Hawker was bent, a murderer, a fucking rapist. There’s got to be something we can do.

“You can try and get her out on bail. Given the nature of the incident and what happened with Abby. I’d say you stand a good chance, but when you take into factor the aggression of the shooting, I’d imagine the bond will be high.”

“Money ain't an issue, I’ll find the money,” I assure him, and it won’t be. I’ll rob a fucking bank if that's what it takes.

“You know she’ll do time for this, don't you, Squeal,” Roswell gives it to me straight, dropping his head.

“Not if I’ve got anything to do with it.” I shake my head in disagreement and slap my brother’s chest to tell him it’s time for us to leave.

“Wait…” Lucille chases us to the door. “The girl’s father turned up here just before Alex made her statement. She looked pretty shaken up when he left. She asked me to give this to Maddy,” she hands me a piece of paper with Alex’s handwriting.

“Seb Wheeler. Who the fuck is that?”

“Alex said he was the guy Mr. Barnes had asked to investigate the club and her brother. Did you know she had a brother?” she asks.

“I’ll pass this on.” I shoot both her and Roswell a look before storming back out to the cage.

Screwy drives us straight to the club, and as soon as I walk into the bar room, Troj thunders at me. I prepare for what I know is coming, and the fact it’s gonna fucking hurt. Making Hawker pay for what he did to Shaniya has been on Troj’s mind for months. He pulls back his elbow, and when his fist hits the side of my face with a hard crack, it sends me dizzy. I don’t retaliate, despite the fact I’m angry enough to be a fucking match for the Ring King right now. I can relate to how he must be feeling. If someone did to Alex what his girl had to suffer, I’d want to take out their insides and feed it back to them.

Troj will never get to make the man who ruined Shaniya’s life suffer. That's a huge something to be taken away from men like us.

“That's for letting this fucking happen,” Troj gets up in my face, and when I take a glance around the room, I realize everyone is here.

Shaniya steps forward and tugs her husband back, and he pushes the hair that’s fallen into his face away and lets out a frustrated breath.
