“Now, what ya need to get your girl out of trouble?” He looks back at me.

For once, I’m fucking speechless. I expected Troj to be mad. I expected to feel the wrath of his frustration. I never expected him to be so forgiving.

“She made a full confession to the DA, Roswell said something about bail. But I don’t know.” I scratch at my jaw and try thinking straight. It all seems so overwhelming.

“I’ll get to work.” Maddy comes at me and stretches up on her tiptoes to hug me.

“I need you to do something else first,” I tell her.

“Name it,” she smiles at me sadly.

“I need you to find the number for Alex’s dad in Illinois, and then I need you to look up this guy.” I hand her the piece of paper. “He was working for Abby’s dad, investigating us and Danny. He made a visit to Alex just before she made her statement. Just before she shot him, Hawker said something about her brother being corrupt. Maybe this guy could back that up, and that's what got Alex to make the confession.”

“I’ll get right on it.” Maddy heads over to where her laptop is already set up in the corner of the room. I got no doubt she’s already been using it to try and come up with a way out of this.

“Thorne, we got enough in the pot to post bail?” Prez asks.

“Soon as I know what it’s posted at, I’ll let you know. I can’t see it being a problem, and if it is, we’ll find a way.” He nods at me reassuringly.

“Thanks,” I nod back. “Prez, I know this ain’t a club problem, and I’ll pay back every—”

“This is your problem, that makes it a club problem, brother,” Prez reminds me, and as grateful for that as I am. I hate the pitiful look on everyone’s faces. I never wanted to be anyone's charity case.

“Um, Jessie,” Maddy sounds alarmed, and all eyes go to her.

“What's up?” Jess shoots me a worried look as he steps up beside her. “That passport you asked me to look at, the one you found in the apartment Chop was hiding out at.” She passes him the unfolded piece of paper I gave her, and I watch my VP’s eyes stretch with fury.

“Son of a bitch,” he utters before passing it to Prez.

“Does someone wanna clue me in here?” I stare between them as Prez hands the paper to Skid.

“Jess and Troj found this at the apartment they checked out before we got the alert on Hawker.” Skid reaches into his cut and hands me a passport. I don’t question its authenticity until I see Chop's picture next to a name that ain’t his…

“Sebastian Wheeler,” I say the name out loud as I look back up at Skid. “Your brother really does have a fuckin’ death wish.”

“Here,” Maddy interrupts, handing me a number on a post-it. “I’m keeping my eyes on the investigation notes. I’ve hacked the agent who's working the case emails too. Leave this to us and focus on Alex,” she tells me reassuringly. And suddenly, I wonder what we ever did before Jessie brought her into our lives.

“I’m gonna do just that. Starting with making this call.” I hold up the post-it and head out of the bar for somewhere quiet to talk.

“There’s someone here to see you.” Davies opens the door. I spent my first ever night in a cell, and I’ve been sitting in the same interview room at the Colorado Springs station for hours. I’ve gone over the story with three different people since I was brought here yesterday. All I want to do is speak to Squealer and explain to him why I couldn't go through with his plan. He’ll be mad. I can imagine him now, throwing his arms around and looking capable of murder. And when the door reopens, it’s actually him who I expect to step into the room.

Definitely not my father. My blood turns to ice, and the sick, nervous feeling that isn’t going away suddenly intensifies.

“You are a very silly girl, Alexandra.” His tall, skinny frame looms over me before he pulls out the chair on the opposite side of the table and takes a seat. I can’t bring myself to look at him. I’ll only find disappointment. Nothing I ever did was ever good enough for him. Even when me and Danny were achieving, he would remind us of how he’d done better. The only person who understood how hard that was, was Danny, and he isn't here anymore.

“Do you realize what it’s gonna cost me to get you out of this mess?” He tuts.

“I have money saved…”

“Not financially, I’m talking about my reputation.” Leaning forward, he forces me to look at him. Maybe me and Abby weren’t so different after all.

“You threw everything away to be some dirty biker’s whore. I should let you rot in jail. And if it wasn’t for your mother and what she’s been through, rest assured, I would.”

I want to cry when I think about Mom. What if there’s an investigation into this and what Hawker and Mr. Barnes have said about Danny is true? Having two disgraced children will ruin her.

“I’ve spoken to anti-corruption; they’re opening an investigation on Hawker using the evidence you put together.”

“It wasn't my information. At first, I thought it was Danny’s, but then Hawker said something about Danny being involved. Then the girl he was seeing here’s father came to see me and said he paid someone to look into Danny and he found something. Then he went cold on him. What if that person decided to blackmail Danny with what he had? I thought he was building a case to bring Hawker down, Dad, but what if he sent me that file to protect himself?”
