“Okay, we really need to go.” Ella gives in, her body relaxing a little. “Just keep trying Nyx for me,” she begs.

Once I got her safely in the car and strapped in, I get behind the wheel and speed out the yard. Keeping the phone pressed to my ear, I try Nyx over and over. The guy hasn't taken a shit without his phone at his hand lately. Why the hell ain’t he picking up?

“Shit,” Ella moans, her fingers digging into my thigh as she breathes and pants heavily.

“It wasn’t supposed to be like this. I need drugs this time,” she cries.

“I probably have enough for a line in my pocket, and I’ll bet Rogue keeps a stash in here.” I lean forward and flip open the glove compartment, fumbling my hand around to find something to help her out.

“Not those kinds of drugs,” Ella snaps. “Why isn’t he picking up, Squealer? I spoke to him just before I left the house.”

“I don’t know, but just please don’t have this baby on me, especially not in Rogue’s car; she’ll kill us both.”

“Squealer!” She screeches my name, tucking her chin into her chest, and at the same time, a gushing sound takes my attention off the road.

“What the fuck!” I gag on my words when I look at the mess she’s just made in Rogue’s footwell.

“We’re dead; she’s gonna kill us.” I shake my head, trying to focus on getting us to the hospital and not throwing up.

Ella grabs my wrist and digs her nails into my skin, and somehow, I make the twenty-minute ride to the hospital in just under ten. Ella is still in one piece when we get there, and I abandon the car as close to the entrance as possible, leaving the door open as I fly out and leap over the hood to help Ella out of the passenger seat.

“I don’t think I can move,” she shakes her head defiantly, and I don’t give her no chance to argue, lifting her out of the car and heading toward the double doors. I pass a guy in a wheelchair by the door. He’s smoking a cigarette while clutching hold of the trolley carrying his oxygen tank.

“Out!” I yell at him, carefully placing Ella back on her feet.

“Fuck off,” he spits back at me through his stumpy black teeth.

I ain’t got the time or the patience for his shit, so I pull the gun from my shoulder holster and hold it to his head.

“Out the mother fuckin’ chair,” I try again, ignoring Ella’s gasp and waiting for him to shift his ass.

“Your chariot awaits, darlin’.” I take the handles and spin the chair so Ella can sit, then push her inside and toward the desk.

A nurse quickly takes over from me, and Ella explains about the contractions and how the baby isn’t due yet, while I keep trying Nyx. I follow the wheelchair down the corridor and try a new tactic, dialing Alex, who thankfully answers on the second ring.

“Squealer!”

“Yeah, you at the station?” I ask her quickly.

“No, I’m just heading back there now, is everything okay?” she sounds worried.

“I need you to head over the studio and tell Nyx to get to the hospital, pronto. His kid’s on the way.”

“Really? I spoke to him earlier, he… Leave it to me. I’ll make sure he gets there.”

“Any chance you could do something else for me?” I ask as they wheel Ella into a side room and help her onto the bed.

“What is it?”

“When you track him down, head to the club and relieve Screwy of Dylan. Just until I can figure something out. He’s the only person at the club.”

“Just ‘cause I’m a woman, you think I’ll be better at taking care of him than your brother?” she laughs at me.

“Alex, anyone with a pulse would be better at taking care of a kid than my brother,” I tell her before shutting off the phone and facing Ella's stern face.

“Right, we made it.” I rub my hands together and look around to see that the nurses have got everything covered. “Alex is tracking down Nyx. I should probably—”

“Don't you dare fucking leave me, Squealer.” Ella looks at me helplessly while the nurses start strapping her to monitors and pass her something to stick in her mouth. Ella sucks it like a trooper and yeah, my head fucking goes there, even in a situation like this one.
