“I really do. I wouldn't want any rent. You can study in peace, and I like your company. Move in with me. It makes sense,” I tell her, actually starting to get excited at the idea.

“Really?” Abby can’t hide her excitement either, and when I nod my head, she launches herself across the bar and throws her arms around my neck.

“I’ll assume that's a yes.”

“It’s a yes.” Abby looks like she might cry.

“Now seeing as you're here, and you aren’t busy, I’m assuming you’ll be okay to take care of Dylan if Screwy needs you?” I check, remembering that I’m still on duty.

“You think Ella would trust me?” She looks over at the little boy on the floor. “Two years ago, I would never have had to ask that question,” she tells me sadly as she looks over toward the little boy, who's now climbed onto Screwy’s knee. He bobs him up and down, his face still remaining expressionless.

“I think she would want her little boy to be taken care of by someone who she knows, rather than someone she doesn't.” I smile, sliding off the stool and heading for the door.

“Bye Dylan, see ya, Screwy,” I call over to him and get a nod for a response before I leave and head back to the station.

I sit in the waiting room, staring at the floor and trying to forget the vision of Ella’s pussy being torn apart like a scene out of Alien.

“She’s here, and she’s perfect.” I look up and see Nyx in the door frame with a proud-looking grin on his face. “El wants me to clean up before I hold her,” he explains, and I nod him toward the restroom on the other side of the room.

“So what’s with the blood?” I ask, checking that there's no one in earshot as I follow him in. He talks to me through the reflection of the mirror as he pumps a shit ton of soap onto his palms and frantically scrubs.

“It’s Luke Robinson’s. A kid went under ‘cause of him this afternoon, and I lost my shit,” he admits, turning on the faucet and rinsing.

“Is he a Grimm problem?” I ask, already worrying how we’d manage while he was out of town.

“Nah, he’s still breathing. I called it into Roswell.” Nyx reaches for more soap.

“I could have easily done it though, without feeling guilty.” He looks up at me again. “I’ve just brought another kid into a world where people like Luke Robinson exist. It's my job to keep the place where I choose to raise my family safe,” he tells me, ripping a handful of paper towels from the dispenser on the wall and drying his hands. He looks down at his shirt and clenches his jaw.

“Here,” I shrug out of my cut and lift my shirt off my head before handing it over. “Go hold your baby girl,” I tell him, putting my cut back on over my bare back. “And don’t you worry, your kids have got a club full of uncles that want exactly the same for them. There will always be people like Luke, but knocking ‘em down’s our sport, kid.”

“You really came through for me today,” Nyx slaps me on the shoulder.

“Anytime… actually, scrap that. Next time drive your own bitch to the hospital. Oh, and you owe Rogue a valet. Things got real fucking ugly on the ride over.”

Nyx huffs a laugh like he thinks I’m joking as he heads out the bathroom back to Ella. I leave the hospital and drive Rogue’s car back to the club. I don’t like admitting it, but I’m a little disappointed when I notice that Alex isn't still there. Abby explains that she went back to the station as soon as she came back, and Screwy’s already poured himself a scotch, now Abby’s taken over.

“Is Ella okay?” she asks, tickling the little guy’s belly when he tugs at a chunk of her red hair.

“As well as a person can be after pushing 8lbs of human out a hole designed for dick.”

I shrug, how the hell am I supposed to answer that? What I saw today was fuckin’ witchcraft.

“You think we should call some of the others back? Ella’s gonna need some help when she gets home from the hospital.”

“I’ll call Jessie after I’ve had a drink,” I promise, leaving Abby to take care of the kid while I move around the bar and help myself to something strong. I think about messaging Alex but decide against it. I’ve been feeling myself gravitating too much toward her lately, and having her around is starting to feel too comfortable. It’s only a matter of time before Alex up and fucks off out of town, and I’ll be damned if I let her take my heart with her.

No… I may have agreed to be exclusive, but I ain’t in love, that’s a game played only by fools.

I’m a few scotches down when my cell rings, and I notice Maddy's name flashing on the screen.

“Yello?” I answer, feeling a hella lot more chilled than I did when I got back.

“Why didn’t you call me?” she immediately scolds me.

“Because I totally had shit handled,” I lie.

“And where’s Dylan?”
