I laugh for the first time all day at the thought of Tawk getting chased down by a dog.

“I told you, if you like the girl, you need to talk to her. Following her around and all these messages you keep sending, pretending to be this other guy, you don’t need to do all that shit.” I don’t know what I think gives me the right to offer out advice on women. Especially when the one I’m in lo… the one I care about won’t even talk to me.

“What messages?” Tawk looks confused.

“C’mon, you don’t have to pretend with me. I know it’s you that’s got her eyes glued to her phone screen. Everyone sees the way you look at her.”

“Me? Squealer I was brought up on a reservation without technology. It took me ages to figure out how to use the camera on this thing.” He stares back at me blankly.

“Squealer,” Maddy’s the next person to burst through the doors, and I hate the way she’s looking at me. Something's up, I can tell from the worried look on her face.

“What is it?”

“Where’s Alex?” Now she really has got my attention. “It’s Hawker, he’s back in town. I was running through some security footage for the drive and buy earlier.” I don’t bother to ask her why she'd be doing that. It’s not important. I just want to know where Hawker is.

“He came out of the drive and buy at 7am this morning. I followed the cameras through town best I could, and it looks like he dropped something off at the station, but after that, I lost him. I’ve gone over and over the footage, but nothing.”

“I got your text?” Troj crashes through the doors, marching at us with a scary look on his face.

“Where’s Shaniya? I thought she’d be here,” Maddy asks, looking around the room.

“She’s up at the cabin, had a headache after she finished work,” he answers, his eyes blank of any emotion.

Prez stands up from the sofa, stepping up and taking Troj’s shoulder.

“You're taking the lead on this one. Just tell me where I need to be.”

“Same here,” Tawk cracks his knuckles like he’s been doing this shit for a lifetime.

“Maddy, bring Shaniya and the rest of the girls in,” Troj instructs, “this place is going into lockdown.” She quickly nods, getting out her phone and no doubt pulling up the girl's group message.

“Tawk, your sole priority is to take care of these girls. No one gets through that door unless he’s a member of this club, do you understand?” Troj warns him.

“But I want to—”

“Don’t fucking argue, Prospect. The club needs protecting. Get hold of Storm and tell him to get his ass here and do the same,” Troj tells him, proving that Storm’s got Troj’s respect back.

“What do you need?” he turns his attention back to Maddy.

“Some clean clothes. I’m sure there’s enough food here.” Her brain starts working in overdrive.

“Not for lockdown. What do you need to track down Hawker? Who knows how long we got before he disappears again. We need to act fast.”

“I need my laptop and a miracle…” She looks sad. “I hate to be pessimistic, but he was on foot the whole time I traced him. I haven’t even got a vehicle I can track. He’ll be using a burner phone that I have no lead on. I have nothing,” she sighs. Troj nods his head absorbing what she’s saying and thinking out his plan of action.

“Screwy,” he calls over to my brother. “Head up to the cabins and grab Maddy's laptop. Brax, Grimm, you head to the north side of town. Squealer, you wait for your brother to get back, and you boys cover south. I’ll get hold of Nyx and Jessie to take the east. Tac…” he shouts over his shoulder, but Tac is already there waiting for instruction. “You and Thorne take the west. And me, you, and Skid can take a trip back to that apartment in Colorado Springs. I got a hunch that’s where he’ll be hiding out,” Troj says to Prez, who nods his head like he’s impressed. Skid stands up and knocks back a shot before taking out his gun and checking it’s loaded.

“You heard him, boys, arm up.” Prez leads Grimm, Brax, and Tac out the door toward the vestry to weapon up.

“I need to find Alex and bring her in too,” I tell Troj before he follows them.

“Who's gonna head out with Screwy? You can't let him go out there alone,” Maddy cuts in. She’s right. I guess the South will just have to wait until I’ve got Alex here safely, even if I have to do it with her kicking and screaming.

“I’ll ride with Screwy,” Rogue pulls a handgun out of her boot.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Troj shakes his head.

“You want the town covered, you ain’t got a lot of options,” she points out, “and I am not being locked down while all that action’s going on,” she assures him.
