Prez, Tac, and Thorne are waiting for us by the club doors, all of them looking relieved to see that everyone made it back in one piece.

“Two words for you, Prez. Murray Cutler.” Jessie’s words leave Prez looking confused.

“Verretti doesn’t have enough men to bring this club down. He hired in. Maddy hacked the computer in his office.”

“Murray Cutler,” Prez nods, looking pleased. “I’ll enjoy making him regret that.”

“I got to get my laptop. We have to try to find him. Verretti may have called him off, but that doesn’t mean—”

“Not tonight,” Jessie stops her. “We have plenty of time for that tomorrow. Murray isn’t an immediate threat. Verretti called him off when he realized he had you.”

“Jessie, we have to find him.”

“We have half the Utah Charter here. Me, Skid, Thorne, and Tac will ride out and pick up Murray. I know exactly where to find him,” Prez assures her.

“Come on, you and I got some making up to do.” Jessie kisses Maddy’s temple and moves her toward his bike.

“You okay, Lydia?” Grace puts her hand on my shoulder, and it’s true to her nature that she’d be concerned about me when I can see she’s hurting herself. I nod my head back at her.

“We can talk when you are feeling better. Right now, I think we all need some rest.” She manages to force a smile.

“After some of the things I’ve found out today, I don’t know if I ever want to remember anything from my past. I’d rather just start from here.” I squeeze Screwy’s hand, and the sad smile he offers me clenches my chest.

“You done here?” Brax interrupts us.

“Yes,” Grace turns to face him with a stubborn look on her face.

“I’m sorry,” he blurts out, shocking us all.

I’m new here, and even I can tell he’s not a man who apologizes easily.

“I was… I still am mad. The things that went through my head, Gracie, were just…” He reaches out and snatches her chin in the arch of his hand, forcing her close to him.

“Forgive me?” he asks her sincerely.

“For what? Being a jerk, or for shouting at me in front of my friends?” Grace bites back cockily, refusing to make this easy on him.

“No. For taking you home and making sure I get you knocked up,” he tells her, and I watch her mouth fall open. “If making you a Mama is gonna stop you from making stupid decisions that jeopardize your safety, that's what’s gonna have to happen.” He releases her face from his grasp and bends to lift her over his shoulder, carrying her over to his bike.

Grace squeals with laughter, and her hands beat against his back until he places her down on the saddle of his bike. His hand slides up past her ear, and his lips touch hers so softly it’s hard to remember how mad he was at her.

“He can’t be serious?” I look up at Screwy in shock.

“Deadly,” Screwy responds. “You wanna go back to my place or stay here a while?” he asks awkwardly.

“I want to be with you,” I smile, determined now more than ever to make him understand that I’ll want him no matter what he has to tell me.

“Okay,” he nods his head back at me, looking worn out and relieved at the same time. “I just gotta talk with Prez and the boys, then I’ll take you home.” He kisses my forehead and moves us inside the clubhouse with the rest of the family.

I’ve lain here with my head propped in my hand and watched her sleep all night. She’s barely stirred, and I don’t know if that’s because she’s too exhausted for nightmares or if killing the man who hurt her has made them go away.

It’s hard to believe that she’s here lying beside me after everything that’s happened. But for whatever reason it is that she is, I’m grateful for it.

Prez’s meeting was brief. We’ll move in on Murray and his crew over the next couple of days.

The club has to stay alert, and Verretti is still our top priority. He left his mansion like a pussy, which only proves how much he fears us.

He’s right to.
