“I was trying to explain what that means around here,” Alex adds awkwardly.

“Allow me?” Rogue clears her throat yet doesn’t wait for a response. “A lot of people around here will say that if a club member puts your ass on his saddle, it means they own you, but they’re wrong. Those men could own a different girl down at the club every night if they want to. What it really means is that you own them. Welcome to the First Wives’ Club, Vipe!” Rogue winks and pats me on the back as she moves past to let herself into Maddy's cabin.

“She kinda actually got that right,” Alex nods, looking surprised and impressed all at the same time.

Inside Maddy's cabin smells delicious. There are cakes on the coffee table, and the furniture has been rearranged into a circle around it. Grace is holding Ella’s baby, and Shaniya is on drinks duty. Rogue is chewing hard on her gum, looking impatient, and the older woman who made the delicious pot roast is here too.

“Oh, are those muffins?” Alex’s eyes double as she looks at the table.

“Blueberry,” the older lady picks up the plate and offers it over.

“Great, everyone's here.” Maddy kicks things off, and Rogue rolls her eyes, letting the bubble she's blown pop.

“We haven’t got long, me and Alex need to get back to the office. But I’m sure you’re all aware of what’s happened lately.”

“Screwy put the bitch on his bike… yadayada, we’re all in the loop, Mads. Can we get this moving? Some of us have actual work to do?” Rogue interrupts.

“Screwy put you on his bike?” Shaniya looks over at me excitedly, and when the rest of the room follows in sequence, I feel the blood rush to my cheeks.

“Yes, he did, but that’s not why we are meeting.” Maddy saves me, giving Rogue a warning look before she gets back to business.

“The club has put a plan in place in case there's an emergency, and we need to go into lockdown. And I just need to make sure we all know what we are doing.

I’ve created a message group. You’ve all had an invitation.” Maddy clears her throat and then looks at Rogue expectantly.

“I can’t accept it unless you agree to my terms.” Rogue crosses her arms over her chest.

“And those are?” Maddy smiles politely, though I can see her slowly losing her patience.

“No cat memes, videos, or gifs. No constant updates on the brats. I’m sorry, Ella, no one really fucking cares that Dylan pissed on the big boy toilet. Or that Alex’s babies are the size of avocados.”

“Mango’s, actually,” Alex adds around a mouthful of muffin.

“Relating to it as fruit is not gonna make pushing two spawns of Squealer out of your pussy any easier. The size of that guy, those little satans are gonna tear you all the way to your asshole.”

“Rogue!” Grace gasps, quickly sliding her arm around a terrified-looking Alex’s shoulder.

“Fine, the group chat with Rogue included is for this purpose only,” Maddy stares at Rogue again. "Just accept the invitation,” she sighs, keen to move on. “Never discuss details on the chat. You never know who’s hacking. There will be a codeword, which we will use if we need to put our plan into action.”

“What’s the codeword?” Rogue interrupts again.

“Whatever! You can decide,” Maddy snaps.

“When you all get home, pack a bag with enough essentials to last a few days and keep it handy. In the event of a lockdown, you will get a message with the codeword. There is a cage being kept here and another one down at the clubhouse. Once I’ve made sure everyone is accounted for, we will leave the compound via a secret track that leads to Grace and Brax’s cabin.

“We’ll have food supplies, so you only need your personal things. We’ve already got formula and nappies too, so you don’t have to pack too much for the little ones.” Grace looks at Ella, who nods gratefully.

“It’ll be snug, but we’ll be safe. No one outside the club knows about our cabin, and Brax says there will be two Souls there with us at all times.”

“That's the great plan? To run and fucking hide?” Rogue looks underwhelmed.

“Yeah, that’s the plan, Rogue. Because I don't know about you, but when the man I love is out there getting bullets fired at him, I want his head focused on coming back to me instead of worrying that I’m safe,” Maddy challenges, and surprisingly Rogue backs down.

“You got guns at your cabin?” Rogue looks across to Grace.

“Brax has a whole artillery out in the garage.” She laughs.

“Then I’m in. You girls are gonna need me to protect you anyway.” Rogue gets up from her seat and starts heading out.
