“Right before I shot. I was telling you–go low, go right.”

“Screw, you weren’t sayin’ shit, just lookin’ like you were about to tear someone’s limbs off.” he scrunches up his forehead in confusion.

“I didn’t say it out loud. I said it…up here” I flick a finger between our heads, lowering my voice so no-one around us hears me. “You went low and you went right. I figured you’d heard me.”

“Screw, you were pointing a fucking gun at my head! Everyone here knows what a shit shot you are. I fucking ducked because I wanted to keep this face looking pretty.” He shakes his head and laughs before Prez, tapping the gavel, causes everyone to go silent.

“The club is on lockdown. No one in and no one out. We still have no idea why Verretti’s nephew was at Kenny’s crack house, but I don’t like the link.” He gets straight to the point.

“I’ll get it out of him. I just need more time,” Brax rocks in his chair, his eyes bloodshot and red-rimmed from lack of sleep. There’s blood dried on the skin of his hands, and he still wears the same stained clothes from the night before.

I almost feel sorry for the bastards in the basement.

“You wanna let me handle the other two?” Jessie checks.

“I got this,” Brax assures him. They both got the same training from Vex. Both men are as brutal as each other. Since Brax made Colorado his permanent home, Jessie’s had to share his victims, and with all the shit he’s been going through with Maddy lately, it’s starting to take its toll on him.

“We have a location for Verretti. I say we move in. Strike before he knows what’s coming for him.” Jessie ties his shoulder-length hair back and then lights up another cigarette.

“He probably already knows. We haven’t made a secret of the fact we’re taking Pueblo. If he knows that his nephew was involved with Kenny, he’ll know it was us who ended him,” Troj points out, biting at his palm like he’s trying to release a thorn from under his skin.

“Then we strike before he knows he’s dead,” Jessie smirks.

“It’s only a three-hour drive to the address we have for him. I’m proposing that we move in tonight,” Prez sits back, waiting for our thoughts, and there’s silence around the table while everyone thinks it over.

“I agree.” Jessie starts off the vote.

Brax nods slowly after him, his eyes staying focused on the table like he’s in another place.

“I ain’t sitting here waiting for a fight to come to my family.” Nyx tenses his fists.

“I’m in.” Tac lifts his head.

“Guess I’ll sleep when I’m dead,” Thorne rolls his eyes.

I say nothing, just nod my head. The sooner I know Verretti is dead, the sooner I can guarantee Lydia’s safety.

“Like you need to ask.” Squealer passes the question straight on to Grimm, who nods and looks to Skid.

“Let’s get this shit done.” He drags a hand through his beard and nods at Prez.

“Troj?” Prez asks the last man around the table.

“Who's gonna be with the women while we’re out there? I don’t want Shaniya here unprotected.”

“I’ve called down some boys from Utah. They should be here in a few hours. We won’t leave until they get here,” Prez assures.

“Then I’m in. Let’s go kill some sick fucks.”

“Go see to your families. Make sure they're comfortable and prepare what you need. We leave here after lunch. I wanna get a good case on Verretti’s property before we go in, guns blazing.”

Prez slams the gavel down, and the brothers start to leave, but I stay seated because I need to speak to our leader alone.

“You got something you wanna say, Screw?” Prez waits until everyone's left before he asks.

“I got something to take care of before I join you,” I tell him, watching his brows come together curiously.

“I don’t know how much you know, but Maddy and Alex found Lydia’s family.”
