“Do you know what he wrote down?” I mumble to her.

She shakes her head. “He had horrible handwriting, and it was impossible to see upside down.” She pauses a moment. “Though, I did see your name.”

My stomach summersaults a few times.

“She was seeing Zane, correct?” he asks, his voice completely emotionless.

“No, not really.”

He pauses his pen on the pad, then continues writing. “What do you mean, not really?”

She glances up at him, a fire lit in her eyes. “I mean, she wasn’t really dating him.”

He tilts his head to the side. “But she was a little bit?”

She scoffs. “I mean, people hang out, right? She hung out with him a few times,” she mumbles, and I grind my teeth.

My personal life is none of his business, yet he acts as if I was already guilty.

I know she was trying to stick up from me, but I still cringe, because she was giving away evidence she shouldn’t have.

“Was anything ever tense between the two of them? Anything that made you question if anything was going on?”

Posie tilts her head to the side. “What do you mean?”

“Did they ever get into any fights or altercations? Disagreements that you may have seen?”

Posie shrugs. “Never.”

I smirk. She’s fucking amazing.

The detective leans down, writing something on his pad of paper. “Do you have any reason to believe she may have been involved in Zane’s death?”

Posie’s eyes widen. “Absolutely not. Lakyn could never kill anyone.”

I turn to her. “You’re really, really bad at being dramatic.”

She winces. “My bad.”

“Do you know where she was on the night of October thirty-first?”

The night he died.

“She was with me,” she says with certainty.

The detective writes something down before glancing up at her. “And where were you guys?”

She pauses, her face freezing a bit, and I bite my lip.

Come on.Come on.

“We were out.”

Fuck.

“Out where?”

“You suck at this, Posie,” Eloise mumbles.
