“MaybeIwill killyou,” I growl.

He chuckles.

I need to fight him. I need to take him down.

I’m not playing this game anymore. Not with him. Not after he attacked Eloise. Not after he stalked Posie and Archer. Enough is enough.

In a split-second decision, I rush him, my feet pounding into my rug as I race forward.

He reacts quickly, bending down and knocking his shoulder against my waist. He lifts me off my feet and slams my back against the mattress, hovering over me, his warm body pressing against mine.

I let out anoomph, my eyes widening as he pins me with his waist. His knife flashes before my eyes before he presses it against my throat, the tip digging into my fragile skin. Fear cloaks me, and I swallow gently, afraid his blade will pierce my flesh.

“Please don’t kill me,” I whisper, my voice shaking in terror.

“It seems like you’re asking to play, and I’m more than happy to oblige,” he growls, swiping the blade down. I let out a whimper as I feel my skin shred, warmth flooding through me as a dribble of blood rolls down my neck, pooling near my collarbone.

I gasp, my hand going to the cut. Raising my fingers to my eyes, all I can see is dark red staining my fingertips. He lifts his knife, turning it back and forth, the glinting blood shining against his blade.

Leaning down, his hard mask grazes my face, and I hold my breath, hating that the dark part of me warms at the feel of his muscular body against mine.

“I want you to leave,” I whisper, at war with myself.

“No, you don’t,” he rasps.

My hands lift, and I push against his black sweatshirt-covered chest, but he doesn’t budge, doesn’t move even an inch.

“You can pretend you don’t want me here, but I feel the way your heart pounds against your chest, the adrenaline like heroin. Is that what I am to you, baby Lake? Am I your very own drug?”

My cheeks flame, and I close my eyes.

“I hate you, and when I find out who you are, I will kill you,” I mumble under my breath.

He chuckles, and the rumble shoots right between my legs.

“You’re a murderer,” I whisper.

“So are you,” he shoots back.

“You’re killing people.Innocent people.”

He leans back, his hand staying on my chest to keep me pinned to the bed. He dips his knife to the neckline of my shirt, and he pulls down, the fabric instantly shredding against the sharp blade. I whimper, too afraid to move.

“The thing is, Lakyn, I will kill everyone for you, and I will kill everyone because of you. Do you understand me?” he asks, his blade tickling against my skin. My shirt falls open, my nipples hardening against the cool air.

“I don’t want you to kill anyone,” I whisper, barely breathing.

“It doesn’t matter what you want, Lakyn. The control slipped from your fingertips the moment you committed murder.”

I tilt my chin up. “You’ve been watching us for months. Stalking us. What’s your end game?”

He hums under his breath, and I shiver as he lowers the knife to my waistband.

“Don’t,” I growl.

“I think you like to play.” He laughs.

“I’m seeing someone,” I snap.
