He tilts his head to the side. “Are you really, now? And who might that be?” he taunts, a dangerous edge in his tone.

“His name is Reign,” I seethe. “And he would fucking kill you if he knew you were in here right now.”

“You don’t think he would want to…share?”

I bark out a laugh. Swinging my legs up, I kick his thighs, and he finally shuffles back an inch. His body tenses, angered by my move. He jerks forward, leaping on top of the bed, his gloved hands coming down on each of my shoulders. My back presses into the mattress, and I stare up at him, the white mask peppered in blood. His body heat seeps into me, and I grow warm beneath him, melting into my sheets.

“You want to start a war? You won’t win, baby. You won’t even make it across the finish line.”

I lick my lips. “I’m more dangerous than you think,” I whisper.

He chuckles, his hand sliding down my arm, and I swear I can hear the burn in its wake. “I know how dangerous you are, Lakyn. It’s why I’m here.”

I tilt my chin up. “Why are you here?”

His fingers trail down to my waist, sliding underneath the fabric of my shirt, until I can feel the smooth leather of his gloves along each rib. He bends down, his mask brushing my jawline. “Because our skin might be clean, but our souls are covered in blood.”

“I’m not like you,” I mumble, mentally attempting to push away the way my body wants to curl into him. Hating the way the flesh between my legs dampens my inner thighs. I rub them together. “We aren’t the same.”

He huffs out a laugh. “We’re exactly the same.”

I decide I’ve had enough. I’m not doing this anymore.

I refuse to keep him a secret.

He’s a murderer. We are not the same. It’s time I quit with this dark façade I’ve fallen into. Taking a deep breath, I prepare to scream, when his hand slaps down on my mouth. My lips crack open, and I sink my teeth into his gloved fingers.

Letting out a growl, he curls his fingers into my mouth. He pulls me forward by my jaw, until he’s only an inch away from my face.

“You want me here more than you want me gone. You’ve beenwaitingfor me,” he growls.

My breath catches in my chest, and my body tingles.

I haven’t. I haven’t been waiting for him.

Except,I have.

I want nothing to do with him, but I can’t help but respond as if he holds the key to my body, to ever nerve ending inside of me. His mask brushes the corner of my lips, and it’s as if he’s kissing me, a passionate moment between us.

I don’t want it. But a part of me does.

I’m so fucked up.

“Leave,” I groan against the mask, my hand going to his shoulders, pushing and pulling. “Or let me see who you really are.”

He lets out a laugh, leaning back. Grabbing me by the waist, he lifts me up, walking across my room. His hips dig into mine as he pins me against the wall, his hands shoving the back of mine against it. “I’d rather be your dirty little secret.”

He settles me onto the ground, crouching down in front of me. He grabs my sweatpants by the waistband, pulling them down my waist, taking my panties with them.

Until I stand in front of him, raw, bare, exposed.

“This is wrong. You need to leave,” I whisper, my chest heaving. My skin thrums with a need to be taken roughly, to be manipulated in a way that only he handles me.

He punishes me for my wrongdoings, and he serves me the penance I feel I deserve.

His knife slides between my thighs, and he scrapes against my skin. Pulling it away, I can see the glistening clear fluid of my arousal. “You don’t want me gone, you want me to be rough with you. You want the pain. You’re desperate for it. Because you know, at the end of the day, it’s the only thing that makes you feel alive.”

I exhale a shaky breath, staring at him, my skin blushing like mad at his words.
