This guy is a fucking idiot.

I walk past him without another word, when suddenly a body steps in front of me. My body stiffens as I glance up, seeing a livid Archer glaring down at me.

“I told you to wait in my fucking car,” he snaps.

I rear back, glaring at him. “So, because I didn’t do what you asked, you just leave? I walked over two miles to get here.” I point to my aching feet. “They hurt. Badly.”

He smirks. “Consider it your punishment for not listening.”

I scowl, my hand going up and shoving against his solid chest. He barely budges, and it only infuriates me more.

“You’re a dick,” I snap.

He cocks his head to the side. “Don’t be pissed at me, Lake. I thought you left with maybe the other hundreds of people that were running away like the world was falling apart.”

“No, I didn’t.” My feet hurt, and my emotions are bubbling all over the place. I don’t know whether to be mad at Archer, or Reign, or the masked man, or maybe myself.

But I don’t pinpoint one, just letting it flow at whoever I’m staring at. And at this moment, it’s Archer.

“Where were you?” he asks, tilting his head to the side.

I freeze, staring at him blankly.Shit.

His brow furrows. “Lakyn? Where the fuck did you go?” he snaps, grabbing onto my arm. He hauls me close to him, until his breath kisses my ear. “And don’t fucking lie to me.”

I lick my lips, panic pounding against my chest like a fucking stampede of animals. I can barely breathe. “I was at the treehouse.”

His face twists in confusion. “The fucking treehouse? That’s another couple of miles in the opposite direction. Not even close to the ship. What were you doing over there?”

I was letting a man with a mask rock my world.

“I don’t know,” I whisper, my cheeks flaming at my thoughts.

Fuck, he’s so good.

He growls, his fingers flexing around my arms. With determination in his eyes, he tears me away from the crowd, and he hauls me to the side of the house.

“Who were you with?” he asks suspiciously, his eyes narrowed.

I shake my head. “I was there by myself,” I choke out.

I’m a horrible fucking liar.

His fingers grab my jaw, and he tilts my face to the side. “If you were with Reign, you’d fucking say it. You’d split my heart with your words because I already know you two are fucking.” He turns my face to the other side, as if the man’s face would be printed along my neck. “You not saying a word makes me think there’s someone else.”

I swallow, a small squeak leaving my mouth.

His eyes flare, and rage hits his irises. His lips curl over his teeth, and he seethes as he bends down. “The last time you let an outsider stick his cock between your thighs, he ended up dead in my arms. You really want to risk another life? How many fucking times do I need to repeat myself?”

I gasp, unable to say a word.

His fingers drop to my throat, and he squeezes as his lips brush against my jawline. “This town falls victim to your addictive blood and you allow them to drop dead at your feet. Is that what you want, Lakyn? Death to consume everyone around you?”

“No,” I say, tears in my eyes.

He huffs, shifting my body against the rough wood of the siding on the house. His hand wraps around my waist, and I freeze, staring at him in anger, hating that he knows me and knows what I’ve done.

I don’t even have to tell him.
