“Yeah, Pose. I think so.” We step forward as one, walking through the fog machines and dry ice cauldrons. A witch stands next to a guy dressed as Jon Snow, a billow of smoke from his blunt curling between them.

We walk through the spiderweb maze, and there’s a cut-out right where Zane was buried.

“RIP Zane. We all know who killed you,” I say the words slowly, my body tensing in unease. My skin grows hot with embarrassment, until my face is burning behind my mask.

“They’re calling us out,” Eloise growls.

I chuckle. “They aren’t calling you guys out at all. They’re callingmeout.”

“Lakyn…” Posie murmurs, her hand going to my arm. She tries to give it a squeeze, but I shrug out of her hold.

I lift my mask, letting it sit on the top of my head.

“I’m fine, Posie,” I grumble, my eyes turning away from the makeshift gravestone. I continue on through the spiderwebs that glow orange from the candles lighting the pumpkins. Creepy instrumental music plays, and my arms pop with goosebumps as we make our way toward the door.

It’s propped open with a tall and thin table, a large candle sitting on top, the red wax looking blood-like as it drips over the edge, solidifying on the dark wooden surface of the table.

A group of girls come out, dressed as a combination of devils and angels, perfume attached to their bodies.

“I can’t remember the last time I was inside this place,” Posie whispers, gripping the doorframe. She glances inside, and my neck cranks back as I look inside the lighthouse.

The ceiling extends so high, made of stone and brick, aged and weathered, yet still kept in pristine condition. The cement stairs spiral up eight levels, from this one all the way to the top of the lighthouse where the beacon shines out onto the ocean. Each level is a large room, with the staircase sitting right in the middle. The music echoes from outside, speakers set up on every level, the thumping bass pounding into my chest.

A skeleton walks up to us, and I realize it’s Kyler. Only half of his face is painted, and in his dark suit, he looks untouchable. My mouth pops open, because the makeup is so perfect. A little manic, slightly messy, extremely lethal. His hair is slicked back, and his dark blazer matches his black tie, dark pants, and shiny leather dress shoes.

“Holy shit.” I chuckle, stepping forward into his arms. His eyes sparkle as he grabs me, pulling me close.

“What the fuck are you guys wearing?” he growls, his dark painted eyebrows lowering in irritation. “Is this a joke?”

“Is what a joke?” Creed’s voice cuts through the music, and I glance over Kyler’s shoulder, seeing another skeleton walking up to me.

The left side of his face is painted as an angry, vicious-looking skeleton. His knuckles graze against his jaw as he watches us closely. My throat dries at how handsome he looks with his hair slicked back. He looks like a damn mobster in his suit.

“Shit,” Vienna says, stepping forward. Her fingers wrap around his arm, and she leans in to kiss him, but he leans back at the last minute.

“Hold up.” He pulls on her arm, making her spin in front of him.

He laughs, and it sounds dangerous.

He turns to Kyler. “Is this a joke?”

Kyler narrows his eyes. “I was thinking the same fucking thing.”

Vienna crosses her arms across her chest. “This isn’t a joke. We wanted to wear these costumes.”

“Chill out, Creed,” Eloise snaps.

Kyler’s eyes cut to hers. “You always dress up for Halloween, but you never dress likethis.” His gaze drops down her body. “Who the fuck you trying to show off for, El?”

She pulls on the front of her dress, and her cleavage reveals a little more. “Whoever wants to take a look.”

Oof, she’s pushing it.

“I’ll make anyone in this place go naked and put some clothes on you if you say another fucking word about it,” he snaps.

“We can go party outside, if you want,” I suggest, knowing it’ll only rile them up.

He tilts his head to the side, and I know I’ve pushed his buttons. “I’m the least of your concerns, Lakyn. Don’t make any stupid decisions tonight.”
