“What’s wrong, Lake?” Posie asks, lifting her peanut butter covered toast from her plate and taking a bite. I reach over, grabbing the second piece, and bite into it.

“Archer’s trying to get us to go to Bethany’s party tonight,” I grumble.

Vienna moans. “Why would we want to party? Bethany is a fucking bitch for throwing one right now.”

I shake my head, holding the toast with my teeth while I type out a message. “I don’t know, but I’m not in the mood,” I mumble.

Me:I’m not in the mood, Archer. Why would we want to party the day after our best friend got attacked? That’s fucked up.

Archer: Because she is our best friend and would want us to live our lives instead of withering away in our houses. Don’t try to turn this into some dark bullshit.

I click out of his text, instantly irritated because I know he’s right. He totally is. Eloise is the party girl. She would be the first one to get ready, pulling us out of our houses all dressed up, and I know she would want us to do the same for her.

Clicking back into his message, I type one out, my fingers slamming against the keys.

Me:You’re a dick.

Archer:You can see it later, if you want. I’ll pick you up at nine.

That’s a horrible idea. Since I’ve gotten back, it feels like Archer wants to rekindle the horrible fling we once had. He’s always been touchy, always overly possessive, but since I’ve gotten home, it’s been happening more.

Me:The girls will drive. I’ll meet you there.

Archer:Call me when you get there.

So that no one approaches me, or any of us, is what he means. Being in college means there’s a flood of new people all the time. From outsiders to newcomers, we’re always meeting new people. New people don’t know about the guys, and what they are to us.

So they feel the need to make it known, toeveryone.

“I guess we’re going to a party tonight,” I mumble.

Vienna stands up from her chair, gripping her cup as she heads toward the hallway. “I’m going to get ready and head over to their house to hang out with Creed.” She looks upset as she clutches the cup to her chest. “I don’t want to be alone today.”

I frown. “We’re here for you, V.”

She smiles sadly, nodding her head. Her blonde, messy hair falls in her face. “I just want to be with Creed. I’ll meet you guys at the party tonight.”

“It’s more packed than usual,” Posie says from the passenger seat. I nod my head as I drive my Audi through the lot, pulling into the yard and parking next to a tree. George finally had it brought over earlier today. I haven’t driven it in a year, and it feels so good to be driving again.

“It feels like everyone in town is here,” I say as I turn off the car, slipping the fob into my backpack.

“Should we call them?” she asks, knowing our usual routine.

I shake my head, a smirk lifting my lips. “No. We’re not kids anymore, Posie. We know how to survive a party.”

Posie laughs, opening her door. “They’re going to be pissed.”

I slip out of the driver’s side door, straightening my bralette. It’s black and lacy and cuts off right below my breasts. My dark blue jeans mold to my thighs, and I’ve paired it with checkered Vans.

Posie walks up to me, her hair pulled up in a high ponytail. Her leather jacket covers her black dress, which matches her black leather combat boots perfectly.

“I’m hoping they get pissed,” I say, looking out at the crowd. People filter in and out of the cape style home that sits in between the forest and the water. Bethany owns a few acres of land, so there’s nothing for a mile in each direction.

A breeze picks up, brushing against my bare stomach. Slipping the straps of my backpack off my shoulders, I nod toward the house. “Let’s go get some drinks. Warm ourselves up.”

Posie nods, and we head into the house, passing different groups of people, some I recognize from school, others I’ve never seen before.

“Lakyn’s here,” I hear a blonde girl whisper from a nearby group.
