I swallow down my groan as I run my fingers through my hair, keeping my face blank so I don’t show I’m bothered by any of them.

“Lakyn, you made it!” A guy comes up to me, a red Solo cup in his hand. My brows lift, and I give him a sweet smile, though I have no idea who he is.

“Hey,” I say awkwardly.

“Where’re your bodyguards?” he jokes, and I instantly wonder if not having them here was a bad idea. They don’t just protect me; they keep away the crazies.

I glance around the yard, pretending to look for them. “I just saw them around here somewhere.”

He steps closer to me until his shoulder knocks against mine. “It’s rare to see you without them.”

I hum, taking a step away from him.

He steps closer.

My nose wrinkles. He smells like booze.

“You were gone for so long. Where’d you end up going?” he asks.

None of your business.

We step under a tree that has orange Halloween lights, and I pause, turning to face him. “I’m sorry, what was your name again?”

He narrows his eyes, looking a little put out. “Jake,” he says sharply.

I smile, and I can hear Posie snicker beside me, knowing my anger is already top notch. “Jake, let me tell you something.”

His eyes flare, like I’m about to hit on him.

“Don’t ask a girl where the hell she’s been when she’s been accused of murder. It’s not cute.”

He smirks. “I never said you killed anyone, baby girl.” He chuckles.

My eyes beam, and I give him a psychotic smirk. “I never said I didn’t.”

He gapes in shock.

“Hey!” The word is shot through the air before Jake flies to the side, his Solo cup slipping from his fingers as the liquor spills all across his body.

“What the fuck!” he barks.

My eyes swing to Archer, and his body is rippling with tension, anger twisting his face as he grunts, fuming beside me. His head slowly twists toward mine. “What the fuck happened to you calling when you got here?”

I fold my arms across my chest, and his eyes dip to my cleavage, narrowing. “I’m a fucking adult, Archer.”

Reign steps up beside him, and his eyes fall to Jake. He walks up to him, nudging his thigh with his shoe. “Get the fuck out of here,” he growls.

Jake shoves to a stand, walking away with a pissed-off look on his face.

“What the fuck are you doing, Lakyn?” Kyler barks at me.

My eyes narrow. “I’m coming to the fucking partyyou allwanted me to come to.”

“Yeah, but you were supposed to call us. This isn’t about us hovering over you. People are fucking shady,” Creed grumbles, stepping up to me, Vienna next to him. She watches me with wide eyes.

She’s telling me I’m stupid withoutactuallytelling me I’m stupid.

“Well, maybe I want to learn shit on my own without you all standing over my shoulder all the time,” I snap.
