“He’ll get over it,” Reign says.

I shake my head, wiping my tears. “I’m going to go talk to him.”

I roll over, and Reign’s hands immediately sink to my waist. “Lakyn,” he warns. “He’ll get over it,” he repeats.

I grab his hand, pulling it off my waist. Shifting up, I lean forward, staring him in the eyes. “You might have my heart, Reign, but Archer has a piece that solely belongs to him, and even if I don’t belong to him, I still love him. You’ve never been jealous of mine and Archer’s relationship before. Don’t start now.”

“I’m tired of sharing,” he seethes.

I frown at him. “I’m not asking you to share, Reign. They’re just my friends.”

He clenches his jaw, staring at me with narrowed eyes as he releases me.

I watch him for a moment before I lean forward, pressing a light kiss to his lips. He doesn’t kiss me back, too angry, a light bruise forming under his eyes, a swath of blood dribbled beneath his left nostril.

Spinning on my heel, I make my way to the stairs. My hands grip the railing as I run up them, taking a left once I hit the landing, and head toward Archer’s room. His door is shut, and I don’t even bother to knock. He’s never done it for me, so I open his door, seeing him sitting on his windowsill, his window propped open. His legs swing over the ledge, a cigarette between his lips as he puffs on it lightly.

“Get the fuck out of here, Lakyn,” he mumbles, not even turning toward me. He doesn’t have to look to know it’s me, we’re just like that.

“Archer,” I whisper.

“I said get the fuck out of here,” he snaps, turning to look at me. His lips are bloody, his eyebrow split as blood seeps onto his eyelid, curling around and trailing down his cheek. “I’m not in the fucking mood.”

I step into his room, pushing his door closed behind me.

“I just want to talk to you.” I walk toward him, and he shakes his head, lifting his cigarette and taking another puff. He turns toward me again, two streams of smoke flowing through his nose.

“There’s nothing for you to say. You already walked into his bed, Lakyn,” he snaps.

I tilt my head to the side. “You can’t honestly think it would’ve been easy with him coming back, would you? You had to have known something would’ve happened between us. Too much business left unresolved.”

His eyes narrow. “I’d hoped after your heart shattered last time, you would’ve learned your lesson.”

I fold my arms across my chest. “Come on, Arch. You know how it was before.”

He takes another drag before tossing it out the window. Swinging his legs inside, he stands before me, his dark hair an absolute mess as it shifts in all directions.

He reaches behind his neck, pulling his gray tee over his head. He bunches it up, wiping the blood on his face, but all it does is smear it across his skin. Tossing it aside, his tanned, rippled muscles cord with tension.

“How was it, Lakyn?” He tilts his head to the side, his tone taunting, threatening. He’s referring to me sleeping with Reign.

I swallow, taking a step back. The way he looks right now, with his tinged pink teeth, his lip curled back into a snarl, he would tear me apart if I didn’t mean as much as I do to them.

“Don’t ask questions you don’t want to know the answers to, Archer.” My brow furrows in warning.

Walking toward me, his eyes narrow in a dangerous intent, until my back is flush with his dresser, and his chest presses against mine.

“Is he better than me, Lakyn? Did it beat as hard as it did when I picked up the pieces after he left? How about when you stood in the water, wishing the waves would wash you away? Did it not beat harder for me when I saved you? How about when I helped you warm up in the shower, after you stayed in the rain for hours?” He leans in closer, his lips brushing against my jaw. “Did your blood not flow for me when I tucked you in my bed, and you turned over and wanted me to take your pain away? When I brought you to orgasm countless times, until you nearly passed out in my arms? Tell me your blood did not flow with absolute fire when you sunk your nails in me so hard until my skin split and I bled for you. Tell me,” he growls. I can feel his vulnerability ripping into my chest, painful claws tearing at my heart.

It did. It does, and he knows it.

I lick my lips, my eyes narrowed into slits.

“Quit, Archer. You know how much you guys mean to me. How much I love you,” I whisper.

His hand goes to my jaw, dropping until his fingers caress my neck. “Does he really think his silly little words will keep us away from you?”

I shiver, the danger in his words dripping ice on fire. “Don’t start a war with your best friend.”
