“Holy shit,” she mumbles, turning back around with a tremor as she attempts to stick her keys in the lock. She’s too shaky, though, and she can barely grip the metal in her fingers.

I step up to her quickly, and she drops her keys to the ground.

“Fuck this,” she whines, dropping her purse as she sprints sideways, leaping over a bush to make her way around her house.

Ah, she’s quick.

I pick up my pace, racing after her. She turns quickly, running around the side of her house.

I step over the bushes, speed walking after her. She runs quickly, her feet pounding against the grass as she makes her way to her backyard.

Her very private, very secluded, backyard.

Fucking idiot.

I smile, shaking my head as I follow her. She moves toward her back door, one I’ve already checked and confirmed is locked. She dropped her keys by the front door as well, so she will not be gaining entry through this one either. Not tonight.

She pulls on the doorknob, and it doesn’t budge. She doesn’t stop, though, shaking it back and forth erratically. I smile as I grow closer, and she glances over her shoulder at me, eyes shooting into saucers when she notices how close I am.

“Get out of here! Oh, my God! Help me! Someone help me!”

Who does she expect to help her? She lives alone.

Once I grow close enough, she spins around, her spine and palms flattening against the door. Chest heaving, forehead glistening with sweat, she looks wild as she stares at me.

“What do you want?” she whimpers, letting out a sob. “I didn’t do anything!”

Oh, Steph, you did everything.

Including trying to out my Lakyn for murder.

She isn’t yours to torment.

She is mine.

I cock my head to the side, and her legs shake as she lets out another cry. “Leave me alone!” she sobs, turning back around as she pounds.

I’m only steps from her.

In a split-second decision, she sprints away from her back door, heading toward the woods.

Okay, you’re going a little overboard.

I pick up my steps, reaching out once I’m close enough to her, grabbing onto her ponytail. I give her a sharp tug, and she flies back, her spine slamming against the ground.

She lets out a gasp, her hands shielding her face as she twitches. “Please,” she wheezes. “Don’t hurt me.”

I don’t say a word, because she doesn’t deserve them.

Raising my hand, I lift the handle of my knife, swinging it down, the blunt head hitting right on the side of her head.

Thump.

Her head sways to the side, her eyes closing as she gets knocked out.

Standing up, I glance around, seeing no one. Hearing no one.

Pulling out my phone, I unlock it, typing out a message to her.
