They were only eighteen but it had always felt like they’d known each other for many lifetimes. Her soul knew Leo, recognized him, and longed to be near him.

He fed her body, her mind, and her heart.

“I love you, Leo. You calm my spirit.”

Holding her skull, he kissed her gently. Pulling back, he rested his forehead against hers. “Let me show you how much I love you, Amelia.”

She nodded and he gathered her against him, lifted her easily, and carried her to the bed. Watching the expression on his face as he positioned her in the center of the bed and pulled her hair from under her, Amelia’s heart ached with emotion.

Leo crawled up to lay beside her, settling in to kiss and pet her for a long time. Touching her made him happy.

She knew how lucky that made her.

He sealed himself to her side and moved slowly so she could get accustomed to the feel of his naked skin against her. No matter how much they’d caressed one another, how well they knew one another, they were virgins.

That he wanted everything to be exactly right moved her.

Holding her gaze, he stroked over her clit. It was something he’d done a hundred times. It was a familiar touch and one that made her breathless. He bent to take a pebbled nipple in his mouth and his fingers moved over her in exactly the right rhythm. It didn’t take long for her to come.

Leo held her against him as she whispered his name.

Against her hair, he told her, “It’s spectacular to watch you come fully naked.” As the climax gradually faded, he lifted to support his head on his hand. Frowning, he traced her collarbone. “Did they make you lose weight again?”

Unable to stop them, tears slipped from the corners of her eyes. “Twelve pounds.”

He said through gritted teeth, “You’re not overweight. What they’re doing isn’t good for you and it isn’t safe. It scares me after the struggle you went through last year.”

Amelia’s time in a spa that was really a place for people with eating disorders and other problems. For some reason, she couldn’t shake the need to control her food, obsessing over every calorie.

Leo watched her eat lettuce and celery for a week before he had a complete breakdown and begged her to eat something, anything. They’d cried together but she’d felt sort of disconnected from the problem.

Dangerously thin, it was her father who checked her into the clinic since her mother refused to accept there was anything wrong with wanting to be thin.

“Being at prime photo weight is perfectly understandable!” she’d screamed at Amelia’s father. “You’re overreacting…”

Gil had uncharacteristically screamed back, “You are underreacting, Augusta! She isn’t eating, damn it! Now you expect her to simply not care about doing what every fucking human since the dawn of time has done? She’s going!”

Weeks of therapy, meeting a few strong people, and daily encouraging letters from Leo had helped to set her right again. Amelia learned that controlling her food was something she did to compensate for being unable to control other areas of her life.

Back in her house, she’d pushed back at her mother more than ever before...but she was tired. It seemed every meal, every outfit, every minute of Amelia’s life was a source of discussion and debate.

Over several months, she fought Augusta less just to get some peace. The recent trip had seen a full slide into all her old habits.

Hugging Leo to her, she murmured, “I want to talk, I want to tell you everything in my head, and I want to get your opinion on some things...but right now, I want you to love me.”

Leaning back, he smiled and kissed her. “Right away, Miss Whitehall. Lay back, relax, and let me take care of everything.”

She might never be a princess but Leo never failed to treat her like one.
