“Elise you are a lair and a bad one, come on spit it out. I thought you wanted to rescue your friendship with Gwen? What’s going on? Is it because of what happened before she went away the first time.”
“Yes, no, I don’t know. It’s all so messy, so complicated. I messed up.”
“I heard those exact words from someone else the other night.” Nate laughed. “Just tell me what is going on, we can fix this I promise.”
“Nate, I love you and I know you’ve always wanted to play big brother to us all, but you can’t fix everything for us. I messed up and I can’t put it right now, it’s too late.”
“Slow down, what’s too late.”
“You heard her she has a girlfriend, they live together, she might be coming back to visit but she is bund to bring her girlfriend with her. I can’t deal with it, I can’t handle seeing her with someone else.”
“Woah… are you saying you like Gwen? Like really like Gwen?”
“Yes, I always did.”
“Why they hell did you run away then when she told you how she felt?”
“Because she was leaving! I was angry, how could she tell me she loved me when she was going away? What was I supposed to do with that?”
“Bloody idiots, the pair of you. What you should have done was talk about it, you both wasted all these years being miserable because neither of you could open your mouths and have a simple conversation.”
“It doesn’t matter she has a girlfriend now.”
“No, she has a roommate, there is a difference. Kristal is straight, there is nothing between her and Gwen except they are friends. Get your backside over here we need to get to the airport before she goes through the gate.”
The phone went dead, and Nate hollered to Jake to get a move on.
Twenty minutes later they were in the car heading to the airport.
“Drive faster Nate!”
“Jake shut up! If I go any quicker I will get caught speeding, and I can’t afford the points on my license.”
“But this is a matter of life or true love!”
“Jake it’s fine we have time to get there, what am I going to say to her? What if she doesn’t feel that way about me anymore more? Maybe this is a mistake, and we should just turn around.”
“Elise, calm down, of course she still loves you. Jake stop being a drama queen.”
Arriving at the airport it took a further five minutes to find a parking spot, Jake was literally bouncing in his seat by the time the engine shut off.
“Let’s go, Jake, calm down or you will give it all away, and this is between Elise and Gwen, okay? Elise how you doing? Just remember to breathe you look like your about to pass out.”
“I just want my best friends to be happy, is that so wrong?”
“I’m fine, just terrified, what if she says too late?”
“We both want them to be happy but you jumping about like a demented spaniel won’t help the situation, and she won’t say it’s too late, trust me. Let’s go through this way then we should be able to see her.”
“I see her, she’s over there near the coffee shop.” Jake squealed with excitement.
“Right Jake, you stay here with me. Elise, go for it we will come over in a couple of minutes.”
“But I want…”
“Jake no! Stay here!”
