No filters needed is something I live for; the only thing I have to do is capture the right angle, and I am blessed with a seasoned model who knows how to strut her stuff.

“I am not going to lie; I don’t know if I am getting sick or something. But I am glad the plane landed when it did because I might have just flushed snack time down the toilet.” Enzo walks over to me as we begin our adventure.

“Do you want to check into the hostel? We should actually get a hotel if you aren’t feeling good.” I rub his back, and he is looking a little woozy. Sometimes he gets nauseous when we fly, but he said he didn’t need the motion sickness medicine; it’s a good thing I have it in my pack.

“No, I don’t want you to miss out on a day taking pictures. I’m going to be fine.” But his cheeks puff out a little, and I can see he isn’t going to be much fun exploring.

“Babe, we need you well and rested. Remember, we take care of ourselves before anything else. Without us, the journey stops, the adventure doesn’t exist.” I pull out my phone and search for better accommodations than I previously booked.

I find one near the beach that isn’t too pricey.

“Baby, I don’t want to ruin your trip.” Enzo pulls me into his arms, placing his chin on my head.

“Never could, Enzo.” I turn my face, pressing my cheek into him. Careful not to squeeze him too tight. “Let’s grab a taxi; the hotel isn’t far.”

“Actually, the fresh air makes me feel a little better. Could we walk?” Enzo puts out his hand, and I grab it.

“Yes, of course.” I lead us toward the beach, where we watch the bright blue and green water waves rush against the curve of the sand.

Once we check in, I go and get Enzo situated. He lays down on the bed, and I order a few more water bottles from downstairs to be brought up.

“God, at least it wasn’t that time we got food poisoning when we came off the mountain after hiking Machu Picchu.” Enzo rolls to his side, groaning as he remembers the pain.

“We promised we would never discuss that. It was a horrible time for both of us. Out of both ends, as I remember.” I pull out a pack of saltines I had from the plane.

“Not cool, Pheebs. Don’t say that; I don’t want to be sick. I want to go volcano boarding.” He turns on his back and grabs my arm. “Promise me you won’t go volcano boarding without me.” My cute boyfriend rolls back to his side. “I might get distraught with you, maybe even a little mad.” Enzo makes a comical frown, and I kiss his forehead.

“Don’t worry, honey. I will save the volcano boarding for later. But if you aren’t better, I don’t see why both of us have to suffer?” I give him a wink.

“So mean. My mama wouldn’t go volcano boarding without me.”

“Well, you’re mama isn’t here. I am, and I am the one you fuck, not your mother. Unless—”

“Fine, get out. Go take gorgeous pictures that no one appreciates more than me. Become famous and leave my sorry ass for someone who doesn’t have a weak stomach.” Enzo waves me away.

“I told you to take medicine.” I take off my shirt to change into a tank top.

“Can you please not be right for once? It really is hurting my heart today.” He rubs his chest, and there is his frown again. “Besides, I’m a man, and you can’t talk to me that way.”

“Next time, I will leave you on the side of the road to die.” How is that for your misogyny?

“Okay, fine, I’m not a man. I’m your baby, so say sweet things to me.” Enzo is so adorable when I threaten to leave him for dead.

“Awe, Enzo. What if we stay in bed all day?”

“Really?” His eyes are suspicious of my comment. “You are going to stay in bed all day with me.”

“Yeah?” I shrug at his comment.

“When the sky is bright blue, there is a beach worthy of banging our sexual tension out. Waves that attract international surfers. You are telling me that Phoebe will stay inside when we are miles from one of the largest rainforests in the Americas.” I don’t know where he learned to read, maybe on the flight down here. I am not saying it is terrible, but he might have a point there.

“You cheated.” I point a finger in his face, and he takes it and yanks me down to the bed.

“I like to know what there is to offer.”

“You did; I told you volcano boarding. Enzo, we don’t look up, don’t read about the facts; immerse ourselves in the place, and educate ourselves from the locals. That has been the plan before and is still the plan moving forward. We pick a spot, book a flight and then make arrangements to sleep somewhere. Nowhere in there does it say, read all the guide books, do what this guy did. We aren’t tourists; we are on an expedition to discover.” My speech works wonders.

“God, why do you have to sound so smart? It’s annoying, be dumb for once. Say something stupid like, ‘baby, I would love it if I could just sunbathe all day. Waste our trip sleeping on the beach in a cabana. I don’t even want to see the mountains or talk to the communities here.’” Enzo makes his worst impression of a girl’s voice.
